Xbox Partners with Special Olympics to Host First-Ever Video Game Tournament

Microsoft making video games more accessible for everyone

Recently, Microsoft revealed how their Xbox Adaptive Controller would allow gamers with movement issues the chance to play video games. Now Xbox is hosting the first gaming tournament for the Special Olympics.

Taking place from Monday, July 2nd from 1pm-2pm in the Lyceum room in the University of Washington Husky Union Building.

“At Microsoft, we believe that gaming is for everyone so we’re proud to pilot the first gaming tournament at the Special Olympics USA Games this summer” said Phil Spencer, head of gaming at Microsoft. “Competitive video gaming is enjoyed by players around the world, and our goal with this pilot tournament is to challenge biases and breakdown barriers while providing an empowering and fun experience for all players.”

The 2018 Special Olympics will be held in Seattle, Washinton from July 1st-6th.
