AI Hosts on Your PS5? Sony's Weirdest Idea Yet Might Be Coming True

Why your favorite game characters could soon be reading your patch notes before you even start playing on your PS5.

If you have ever booted up your PlayStation 5 and thought, "I just want to play something already," then this next idea from Sony might sound both interesting and slightly unnecessary at the same time.

According to a newly surfaced patent, Sony is exploring a feature that could turn your favorite game characters into AI-powered news hosts, delivering updates, patch notes, and upcoming content as soon as you turn on your console.

The basic idea is simple, even if it sounds a little strange at first. Instead of checking patch notes online or scrolling through menus, you would get a short podcast-style show or video that plays when you start your PS5.

This show would be themed around the games you actually play. So, if you are really into ARC Raiders, you might hear a character from that game reading out all the latest updates, upcoming DLC, and in-game events. It would be like having a personalized news broadcast, but hosted by someone from the game world itself.

Now imagine you are deep into something like a God of War-style multiplayer experience.

If there is a major update or a brand-new trailer for the next God of War, you would not just see a notification. Instead, you might get an AI-generated video of Kratos sitting by a fire, calmly explaining what is coming next. It is a strange image, but also funny when you think about it. Hearing a serious character like Kratos casually reading patch notes is not something anyone probably expected a few years ago.

You can tell that this is not meant to be a big money-making feature. It does not seem like something Sony would normally hire actors and writers to produce. It feels more like a small experiment using AI to add something extra to the PlayStation experience. In that sense, it makes sense.

If AI can handle reading updates and presenting news, then why not let popular characters do it instead of a generic voice?

One of the more interesting parts of this idea is customization. You could choose which character delivers your news. So instead of always hearing the same voice, you can switch things up if you'd like.

But let us be honest. You probably already know how this would play out. At first, you would watch it. You might even enjoy it for a day or two. You would laugh at how weird it is to hear a game character explain balance changes and DLC plans.

And then, after a few days, you would likely skip it forever. When you turn on your PS5, you usually want one thing: to play a game. You are not there to sit through a mini podcast before jumping into action.

That is why this whole thing feels like it was born in a meeting room somewhere. You can almost imagine the conversation. Someone at the top says, "We need to integrate AI into the PlayStation Network."

The developers and designers respond, "People will not like it if we use AI to replace artists."

So they look for a middle ground. Then someone says, "What if Kratos hosted a news show?" Everyone laughs, but someone else says, "Actually… that could work." And suddenly, it is on a list of features.

From there, it probably became a small project, maybe even just a side idea. It gets added to a presentation. A board member finds it interesting. And now, instead of being forgotten, it is moving forward. That is often how these things happen in big companies.

Still, there is no guarantee you will ever see this feature in action.

A patent does not always mean a finished product. Sometimes companies patent ideas just to protect them, even if they never plan to release them. But in this case, the patent seems to be moving forward, which suggests Sony is at least considering it.

Yes, there is a good chance that one day, when you turn on your PS5, an AI character will greet you and tell you what's new in your favorite game. It could be funny. It might not be worth it. You could skip it right away. But it's another sign that AI is slowly taking over every part of gaming, even the time before you hit "Start."
