The seas are calling again, and this time they look sharper, darker, and far more alive than before. Ubisoft has quietly revealed fresh gameplay footage tied to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake, currently referred to as Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.

The new look at the project gives fans a clearer idea of how much the beloved pirate adventure is changing while still keeping the spirit of the original intact. For many players, Black Flag remains one of the strongest entries in the Assassin’s Creed series. Its open-world sailing, pirate battles, and freedom-heavy gameplay gave the franchise a different energy back in 2013.

Now Ubisoft appears to be rebuilding that experience with modern visuals and smoother mechanics while bringing back several classic features that longtime fans have missed for years. One of the first things that stands out in the new footage is the visual overhaul.

The Caribbean waters now look far more detailed, reflecting sunlight realistically, while storms and waves feel heavier and more dynamic. In comparison to the initial version, city streets, woodlands, and coastal regions also seem considerably denser. According to the sources, the remake is using upgraded environmental systems to make exploration feel more immersive both on land and underwater.

Speaking of underwater exploration, Ubisoft seems to be expanding it in a big way.

According to reports, players will no longer have to visit restricted underwater areas like they did in the past, instead being able to dive practically anywhere in the world. Beneath the surface, there are hidden treasure boxes, treasures, and upgrade materials that make exploring the ocean much more fulfilling.

Of course, treasure hunting would not feel complete without danger lurking nearby, and sharks are once again part of the experience. The footage hints that underwater encounters could become far more tense than they were in the original game. Some old-school Assassin's Creed traits are coming back when you get back to land.

Now, Ed Kenway can walk around with the crowds, sit on benches, and hide from his enemies. You also get to use Eagle Vision again, which lets you see dangers in the distance and keep an eye on your targets. Some Assassin's Creed fans are happy that these changes are a throwback to the series' roots of sneaking around.

One small thing that surprised a lot of people was that they could easily turn Edward's hood on or off. It might not change how the game is played directly, but it gives discovery more personality and lets players choose how their assassin should look at different times. While sneaking through enemy territory, players may want to look like full-on assassins at times, while other times they may want to look like a laid-back pirate captain.

The combat also looks a lot better. The remake makes parries, executions, and taking down enemies better by making the animations smoother and the transitions between moves faster. Edward's rope dart can now pull enemies right into brutal finishes, and the pistol-chain battles from the first game are back with better effects and smoother movement.

Fans will remember the action as being rough, but it now feels more polished and like it belongs in a movie.

A lot of focus is also being paid to the parkour movement. From the video, it looks like players will have more freedom as they move between roofs and climb buildings. Ubisoft may be drawing on what they learned from Assassin's Creed Shadows, which recently made changes to its parkour system based on comments from players.

Overall, it looks faster, easier, and less limiting, which could be one of the biggest gameplay improvements of the remake if it's done right. Beyond Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft also shared small updates on future Assassin’s Creed projects currently in development. One of them is Assassin’s Creed Hexe, a darker and more narrative-focused entry that has remained mysterious since its reveal.

Current rumors place the game in the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire during the witch trials. Reports also suggest the story could feature a female protagonist connected to older Assassin bloodlines.

Hexe’s interesting aspect is the idea that the Animus and the series’ history could give him magical powers. Ubisoft wants this project to be different from their other games, so it will have darker themes and more psychological stories. The game might not be released until around 2027, so players may have to wait.

Ubisoft’s new online game, Assassin’s Creed Codename Invictus, is also getting more press, but not as much. Apparently Ubisoft told them it was not what most people thought it would be, but people said it would be fun for a party. People are interested in how fighting games and online games might change in the world where Assassin’s Creed is being made by the same team that made For Honor.

But Black Flag Resynced is still the project that everyone wants to work on right now. Ubisoft seems eager to remind players why Edward Kenway's pirate adventure was such a hit in the first place. The game now has better graphics, more areas to explore, smoother combat, and the return of stealth systems.

Now the only real question is whether this new version can really make flying into the unknown magical again.
