Resident Evil Requiem is already turning heads and getting fans pumped up. In a recent interview, director Koshi Nakanishi and producer Masato Kumazawa revealed fresh details that point toward this being one of the scariest entries the franchise has seen in years.
When asked how Requiem stacks up against past titles, Nakanishi didn't hold back. He said the game leans heavily into horror, drawing direct comparisons to RE7 and the RE2 remake. Both games were celebrated for bringing back the chilling tension that defined the series, and Nakanishi described Requiem as "old-school Resident Evil."

That means players can expect plenty of exploration, backtracking, and the constant fear that something scary could be lurking just around the corner. If you're a longtime RE fanatic like myself, craving the classic survival horror experience, this is exactly what you've been waiting for.
What's even more interesting is how the game will play out. Nakanishi confirmed that Requiem won't stick to a single camera angle. Instead, it'll feature TPP and FPP. Some moments will be more personal in first person, while others will tap into the iconic over-the-shoulder style perfected in Resident Evil 4. It's basically the best of both worlds.
The story is set 30 years after the destruction of Raccoon City, a pivotal moment in the series' lore. This time, the protagonist is Grace Ashcroft, an FBI analyst. She's not a trained fighter, which makes the horror feel even more intense as she gets pulled into an investigation of mysterious deaths; it's a trope that's almost Outlast-like when you think about it.
The trail leads her to a hotel with a chilling personal connection—it's the same place where her mother once died. You must be feeling sick to your stomach imagining the tension already, as we are.
But you've got to wait till February 2026 for that tension to play out on your screen. That's still a few months away, but the early details suggest Resident Evil Requiem isn't aiming to be another action-heavy installment. Instead, the focus is strictly on spine-tingling survival horror.
