Control Resonant Isn't a Sequel—It's Manhattan Rebuilt in Chaos

Dylan Faden steps into a city that warps reality, pushing both storytelling and combat beyond what fans expect.

A well-known world has broken up in a way that not many people expected. Control Resonant is going to add to the supernatural world that was first presented in Control, but it's not just a repeat of what happened in Control. It's been made clear by Remedy Entertainment that this follow-up is an evolution. It's bigger, has more features and is ambitious enough to stand on its own in 2026.

The main character has changed. Players don't control Jesse Faden, but her brother Dylan Faden. Dylan was introduced in the first game, but his story wasn't fully fleshed out until this one. In Resonant, Dylan comes out of years of being locked up into a world where the supernatural chaos that used to be kept in the Oldest House has spread to the streets of Manhattan.

Things like reality itself warps, buildings fold, and the very structure of cities becomes a mystery and a danger.

Manhattan in Resonant isn't like other open worlds. Remedy calls it "open-ended," and it's more like a "sandbox" with totally open areas that can be explored and optional encounters can happen. One example is the West Incursion Zone, a neighborhood that has been taken over by supernatural changes that mess up the laws of physics and require creative ways to get through.

Dylan's skills let him move through settings that don't follow normal rules. This makes movement just as important to the game as fighting. One of the most noticeable changes is the way fighting works now. In Control, telekinetic skills and gunplay mixed with supernatural force were very important. In Resonant, the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon, is at the center of everything that happens.

This strange weapon can look like a hammer, two blades, or something else. It gives you a lot of choices when fighting close up. This change is different from the usual far-off gunplay that many fans associate with Remedy's games. This change isn't just for looks. Remedy has said that Control Resonant is not a safe follow-up, but rather a big step forward for the series as an action role-playing game with more choices, greater progression systems, and a bigger world and story than the first game.

The company has made it clear that newcomers don't need to know anything about Control before starting, while returning players will find story and theme echoes that connect with the mythology of the first game.

The story's stakes mirror this bigger picture.

Dylan's journey has two parts: he has to deal with the supernatural crisis in the city and find his sister Jesse Faden, who has been missing since the last game. The way his family works adds emotional weight to the chaos happening around him in the universe. The city's decline into chaos is more than just a show. A story about identity, loss, and forgiveness takes place against this background.

The pace of the game is also affected by the range of the environment. Anomalies in gravity that change the shape of zones aren't just pretty to look at; they also change how you move and fight. Exploration turns into a form of puzzle-solving, and optional hidden encounters push players to go beyond their main goals in search of bigger prizes. These systems support Resonant's dual character as a game with lots of action and a lot of atmosphere.

Even though the goals are high, the release plan is still very broad. The only thing Remedy says is a launch window in 2026, not a firm date. Players are looking forward to more information coming out in the coming months. This lack of clarity shows both the size of the project and Remedy's desire to make changes before starting rather than committing to a set date too soon.

From the early teases, we can see that the movie pays homage to its roots while also taking risks with how it expresses itself.

In Control Resonant, the story is shaped by family crisis, and the battle system puts players right in the middle of the action. It's not just old ground that's been covered before. As the 2026 release date gets closer, it will be interesting to see if this change adds to the franchise's trademark mystery and drama or makes it into something completely different.

Now the question isn't whether or not players will go back to the supernatural world; it's how they will get around its strange streets and figure out the forces that want to destroy reality.
