Cyberpunk 2 Jobs Suggest Multiplayer Features and New Tech

CD Projekt Red isn’t talking about Cyberpunk 2, but recent job listings are offering a surprisingly detailed look at what is going on behind the scenes.

CD Projekt Red isn’t saying much publicly about Cyberpunk 2 right now, mainly because the game is still in pre-production. But the studio’s recent job postings are telling us more than you might expect. Hiring posts from late 2025 to early 2026 are starting to paint a clearer picture of the sequel.

The first thing that jumps out is the type of employees the company is looking for. These are not roles that deal with creating quests, designing environments, or building the massive world that players will later explore. Instead, most openings are senior-level leadership positions such as Lead Network Engineer, Lead Narrative Producer, and Expert Technical Artist.

Cyberpunk 2, Multiplayer Features, New Tech

Cyberpunk 2 is still very much in preproduction, not in active content creation mode.

The team is using its time to build tools, systems, workflows, and technical foundations that will enable full development in the future. The project boasts around 135 developers working on animation pipelines, rendering systems, multiplayer technology, and other core infrastructure.

The timeline suggested by these listings is also an intriguing picture. CD Projekt Red is still advertising leadership positions through 2026, suggesting that a major recruitment drive is far from over. Hiring senior talent, conducting interviews, handling relocations, and integrating new staff can take many months.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the job listings is the growing evidence that multiplayer is a major part of Cyberpunk 2. Some job descriptions specifically mention multiplayer architecture, matchmaking systems, server optimization, and network infrastructure. These references suggest that developers are not considering multiplayer as an optional feature to be added later.

The Lead Network Engineer job is quite telling. The role also includes responsibilities that directly tie to the design of multiplayer architecture and maintain server performance stability. Another one is for a technical QA lead and involves capturing network debug info and identifying failures when testing multiplayer scenarios.

This direction makes sense when you look back at Cyberpunk 2077's development history. Multiplayer was originally planned for that game before those ambitions were ultimately abandoned following its difficult launch. CD Projekt Red appears determined not to repeat that process.

The exact form that multiplayer will take remains unknown.

The listings do not mention player counts, game modes, or specific features. However, the scale of the networking positions has led to speculation that the online component could be much larger than simple cooperative missions. Many observers believe the studio may be aiming for a persistent online experience that exists alongside the main campaign.

Cyberpunk 2, Multiplayer, Unknown

The job listings also give an overview of the game's combat systems. Fans hoping that Cyberpunk 2 would move away from first-person gameplay and adopt a third-person perspective similar to The Witcher series may not get their wish. One of the senior design roles specifically requires experience with action RPGs that feature first-person shooter gameplay.

At the same time, the studio appears committed to expanding player freedom. Creating combat experiences that permit a variety of approaches and playstyles is part of a Senior Encounter Designer role. If you like to hack your way through systems, sneak around enemies, or run straight into combat, the design philosophy seems to be aimed at providing multiple ways to accomplish objectives.

Unreal Engine 5 is another major theme running through the hiring posts. Pretty much every technical position mentions experience with Epic Games’ engine, which is no surprise given that CD Projekt Red has chosen to abandon its proprietary REDengine technology. The studio seems fully committed to mastering Unreal Engine 5 and developing future projects with it.

According to reports, developers are working on custom rendering pipelines, advanced shader technology, and new graphical systems built within Unreal Engine 5. These are not the types of tasks one learns a new engine on for the first time. Rather, they hint that CD Projekt Red is developing custom tools and workflows, tailored specifically for Cyberpunk 2.

One very interesting detail about Epic Games’ MetaHuman technology.

Some listings prefer experience with MetaHuman workflows. MetaHuman lets you create hyper-realistic digital humans with detailed facial motion and lifelike expressions. If players use the technology heavily in Cyberpunk 2, the characters' performances could be a big step forward from the original game.

Performance capture appears to be another major area of investment. CD Projekt Red previously confirmed that it is building a new motion capture facility in Warsaw that will feature two dedicated stages. This move could significantly influence the way the studio makes cinematic content.

There are more benefits than just convenience. An in-house facility means developers can record performances more often, refine scenes faster and make changes as needed during production. The Lead Narrative Producer job specifically calls for experience with motion capture, performance capture and voice recording production.

Cyberpunk 2, Epic Games, MetaHuman Technology

While Cyberpunk 2077 had some outstanding performances, some players felt the facial animations and body language didn’t quite match the best in the industry. The investments that CD Projekt Red is putting into Cyberpunk 2 suggest it wants to close that gap. Better capture technology and more production capacity could help the game create more natural and expressive characters.

Several international studios are working on Cyberpunk 2.

The Boston office seems to be in charge of leadership, core gameplay systems, multiplayer infrastructure, and graphics technology. The new performance capture facility, along with animation, technical direction, and production support, continues to be managed by Warsaw. Vancouver is expected to be involved in environmental art, technical support, and quality assurance, but specific responsibilities have not been publicly detailed.

Working with teams in different countries and time zones requires a lot of planning and communication. Meanwhile, the setup allows CD Projekt Red to tap into wider pools of talent and expertise. You will see many job ads mentioning cross-team collaboration, which is a sign that the company is already preparing itself for the challenges of large-scale global development.

Despite all the information hidden in these job listings, many of the biggest questions remain unanswered. There is still no official information about the game's story, major characters, or central narrative themes. The postings do not provide details about the setting either, although previous reports have suggested that players may visit a new city alongside an updated version of Night City.

While the sequel remains years away from release, the direction of the project is becoming easier to understand. The company appears focused on stronger technology, improved character performances, expanded player freedom, and a multiplayer component that could play a much larger role than many originally expected.
