Devil May Cry 4 released in 2008, almost 10 years ago, and since then Capcom has released much information about a sequel. A lot of information has surfaced online from a leaked source who with insider knowledge of the game but since Capcom hasn't officially announced the game this should be taken as rumors.
According to leakers Devil May Cry 5 will release April 2018 and March 2019 with a demo on the way. The title has been in development for 2 years and will be a Sony exclusive since the company provided funding for the game.
The game is set to take place after the events of the 4th game, with multiple playable characters. The last game ended with Nero taking possession of Vergil's Yamato sword with Dante's blessing. According to the leak, Dante will be much more serious than previous games and the main antagonist is labeled as "The Prince of Darkness" which is a reference to Mundus the original boss of Devil May Cry.
The game will feature an open-world design but not entirely, with more freedom to walk around and players will come against more enemies than in previous games with better animation and movements. Boss battles will become much more elaborate with multiple tiers and transitions between stages, with the camera pulling back with dynamically wide-scale combat. This sounds a lot like the boss battles from Ninja Theory's DmC: Devil May Cry.
The most recent installment in the franchise, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It features the original Devil May Cry 4 with additional playable characters and updated graphics.
