Final Fantasy 14 has received patch update 5.3 and increased the free trial to level cap 60 and the entire Heavensward expansion. Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida has announced that due to the influx of players there is currently a lack of housing among the four districts. On each server, a limited amount of land plots and apartment rooms are available for players to purchase. This is further amplified due to automatic housing demolition and land forfeiting being paused in consideration for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and global financial problems.

To increase the space, Square Enix needs to purchase and ship additional servers to all of its data centers across Japan, Europe, and North America. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions it has been difficult to transport the necessary upgrades; technicians and other supervisors have also been required to quarantine on both arrival and return. Yoshida promises that the servers will be operational as soon as possible. In the meantime, the developers are doing what they can to optimize the current hardware.
