The beloved PlayStation franchise might return, but with a new look?

PlayStation fans, you might want to sit down for this one, but even if you don't, this news will make you. InFAMOUS is one of those superhero game series that people still remember fondly and could be on the verge of a comeback. And no, it's not just another rumor flying around online; there is a real likelihood of it.
Unlike most superhero games that came before it, InFAMOUS didn't rely on movie tie-ins or comic book licenses. It carved out its own path. That is what makes fans so desperate to see an InFAMOUS return. Recently, whispers have been circulating that InFAMOUS might return, not necessarily as a brand-new game from Sucker Punch Productions, but maybe as a remaster handled by another studio.

Nate Fox, the game director at Sucker Punch, mentioned in an interview that the studio would be open to letting another developer take on such a project. That makes sense given Sucker Punch's approach of "one game at a time." Right now, their hands are full with Ghost of Yotei, supporting post-launch content, and preparing for the online Legends mode launching next year.
To understand why a revival would be so exciting, it's worth taking a quick trip back to 2009. The superhero genre in gaming was in an unusual place at the time. Movie-based games like Spider-Man or Batman Begins often felt rushed, relying too heavily on their movie counterparts, leaving gameplay that was, at best, okay.
Batman: Arkham Asylum was a game changer, but InFAMOUS "inFAMOUSly" went in a completely different direction. Instead of adapting a familiar hero, it introduced Cole MacGrath—a regular bike courier suddenly gifted with control over electricity after a mysterious explosion. Cole wasn't a traditional superhero in the sense that he wasn't born with his powers, nor was he rich.
He was relatable, and that's all it took for fans to fall in love at first sight. The morality system was what made InFAMOUS stand out. Players have the choice to use Cole's powers for good or to give in to their bad ideas. These decisions didn't simply change the tale; they also changed Cole's powers and how the world around him felt.
Moving across the city was spectacular and much ahead of its time. Climbing buildings, gliding along power lines, and leaping across rooftops, InFAMOUS did it all. Pair that with explosive combat, and you have a franchise that feels fresh. The success of the original game led to InFAMOUS 2, which expanded the story and pushed the PS3 hardware even further.
There was also a smaller spin-off, Festival of Blood, which offered a vampire-themed game. When the PS4 launched, InFAMOUS: Second Son showed the franchise's potential on new technology. After Second Son and its spin-off, First Light, the series went quiet. Sucker Punch shifted focus to Ghost of Tsushima, which became a massive success in its own right.
Ever since then, fans have been left in a conundrum: will InFAMOUS ever come back? This latest discussion about a potential revival may answer that for us. Sony has studios like Bluepoint Games, known for high-quality remakes and remasters such as Demon's Souls, and Nixus, which specializes in bringing PlayStation titles to PC. If InFAMOUS does make a comeback, it's easy to imagine one of these studios taking charge.

The demand is still there for InFAMOUS. Fans want Cole MacGrath back. Back to jumping across rooftops, his incredible powers, and those moral decisions that make InFAMOUS so loved. The only thing holding back an InFAMOUS return right now is Sony's green light. You'd better not make us wait much longer, then, Sony (this is not a warning).
We don't know how they are going to bring InFAMOUS back. One thing we do know is that there is a fanbase dying to relive Cole MacGrath's powers. Sony has the opportunity to bring back the excitement, giving us a chance to dive into a world of electricity-fueled adventure.
