Fans of samurai stories and open-world adventures are going crazy over Sucker Punch Productions' latest reveal. The legendary studio behind Ghost of Tsushima gave fans their first long look at their next epic, Ghost of Yōtei at Sony's recent State of Play showcase. It didn't just impress; it floored. The studio now wants to work on the Infamous Series.

Well-known fans, it's time to raise your eyebrows a little. Sucker Punch, the studio best known for Ghost of Tsushima these days, has finally given the Infamous series some meaningful attention. It wasn't just a casual mention either. In a recent interview, Creative Director Nate Fox discussed his own desire to return to the world of Infamous, even suggesting the possibility of re-releasing the entire trilogy.

It wasn't an accident that this happened. Sony's always-cautious PR team ensured that both the question and the answer were acceptable. They don't let rumors about dormant franchises get out to the public unless there's a reason to. Those words alone are enough to get fans excited.

Fox didn't try to avoid being asked if Sucker Punch would think about coming back to the series or re-releasing the trilogy. What he said: "I'd love to work on more of Infamous." I'd love to see a re-release of the trilogy, but Sucker Punch only does one game at a time, and we're finishing up Ghost of Yōtei right now.

This is important. Fox not only says that he's interested in the IP, but he also suggests a trilogy re-release, which is exactly what fans were hoping for. You should pay attention to how well the question and answer match up, as well as the fact that it was approved by Sony PR. Businesses like Sony don't miss these chances for no reason.

A strange move by Sony earlier this year has added to the rumors even more: Without giving a reason, InFamous: Second Son was quietly taken out of the PlayStation Plus collection. People were surprised that it was taken away since it was a first-party game and a big PS4 launch-era exclusive. Because it's a game from the early days of the PlayStation 4, why take it off? Did it just clean up, or is it a clue?

This plan has been used before. A game is pulled or goes dark right before it returns in a new form, such as a remastered, repackaged, or reimagined version.

To be clear, this isn't a message. Fox did not say if there would be a remaster or a new game. However, this way of saying things is intentional. This isn't the kind of comment that would normally be made without a good reason. When it comes to interviews about IPs like InFamous, Sony's PR team is very tight-lipped. They know that a sentence like "I would love to see a trilogy re-release" can turn into a huge news story.

That comment was made public by Sony, suggesting that they don't mind fans discussing Infamous again. It doesn't mean that something will definitely happen, but it does imply that something could be on the table.

Sucker Punch is focusing strongly on its next game right now. Nate Fox calls it Ghost of Yōtei, which clearly means it is a follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. There is no way InFamous is being worked on at the moment, as the studio only works on one project at a time.

That doesn't mean plans aren't being discussed, though. While Sucker Punch finishes their samurai epic, it would be easy to hire another studio, like Bluepoint or Nixxes, to work on a remaster or collection. At the very least, the studio seems to care about Cole MacGrath's story and isn't ruling out a return when the time is right.
