Jason and Lucia’s Romance in GTA 6 is Optional
Jason and Lucia’s relationship may not be locked into the story, with your choices and time together potentially deciding whether their romance lasts.

Jason and Lucia are at the center of GTA 6, and everything shown so far has made it pretty clear that the two characters are more than just criminal partners. They begin the story as a couple, with the first trailer showing plenty of affection between them and establishing a romantic connection from the start.
However, GTA 6 may give you more control over that relationship than you might expect. Rather than making their romance something that automatically continues from the beginning to the end of the story, Rockstar appears to have created a system that lets you influence how close Jason and Lucia remain.

Your combined actions actually build toward a trackable relationship score.
In GTA 6, maintaining their relationship will reportedly take some effort once you step away from the main story missions. You can spend time together by doing activities around Vice City, including things such as swimming, racing, and riding motorcycles. You can also take part in criminal activities together, such as robbing stores, giving you plenty of ways to keep the pair connected while you're simply exploring the world.
Even smaller interactions can apparently matter. One particularly sweet detail is the ability to hold hands while walking together. When you're controlling Jason and walking alongside Lucia, or the other way around, you can reportedly hold the right trigger to make the characters reach for each other's hands. It is a small interaction, but it can apparently contribute to their relationship.
That relationship is tied to a kind of score that changes depending on how you spend your time together. The more effort you put into your relationship in GTA 6, the higher that score can become. But if you consistently ignore it, the connection between the two characters can reportedly weaken.
If the score falls far enough, Jason and Lucia will no longer be romantically involved. However, they may continue to be professional colleagues and may even stay as friends; yet the romance between them would come to an end.
Lucia's reaction to Jason's outside behavior may also affect that score.
There are recommendations that you may affect the relationship through actions taken outside the interaction itself. It is uncertain whether this is true, although the theory behind it is that Lucia may react if she finds out what Jason has been up to in town. Spending a lot of time with other women, for example, could potentially create problems between the pair and cause their relationship score to drop.
That would make the romance in GTA 6 much more dynamic than simply following a fixed storyline. In order to keep Jason and Lucia together, you might need to put some effort into making sure the relationship works out rather than relying solely on the game.

It is also consistent with the philosophy of Rockstar as far as the freedom of choice of the player and replay value of the game are concerned. As the developer has reportedly claimed, there are numerous instances in GTA 6 that are crucial for the fate of the player.
So while Jason and Lucia start GTA 6 as a couple, their relationship does not necessarily have to stay that way. You can choose to spend time together, build up their connection and keep the romance going, or largely ignore it and let the two characters become nothing more than partners in crime.
