Merry holidays, everyone. As we wind down to the end of the year, perhaps there’s just one last taste of novelty possible to throw out. Bandai Namco recently held their Level Up Winter event, which showcased multiple upcoming projects, with some exclusive new gameplay footage. As we tend to do, we chopped up this B-roll for safe, promotional consumption, so we thought we’d pass that on. The reels are, for lack of a better term, pretty dang hype. Watch the video below for the four releases, featuring plenty of anime favorites.
Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is up first and shows just how much this game has grown, ever since the first iteration that collaborated with Studio Ghibli. In this footage, we see a bigger dedication to action sequences, with more characters filling the screen and a lot more activity throughout. There is also an involved real-time strategy set piece, where the protagonist leads an army through a battlefield in Pikmin style.
Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time released some more gameplay as well, with some brief combat planning and a fight sequence as well. Characters fight on a 2D axis, but in cel-shaded 3D in real time. The witches throw out spells and skills quite like Bandai Namco’s “Tales Of” series. Some gameplay also goes over the narrative part of the game and the world traversal, to better show off the fluid animation and cute as heck style of the popular anime series.
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet gameplay just focuses on straight-on firefights in a future tech setting. Characters can lock on to enemies and shoot a volley of bullets, switch to different weapons, circle strafe, to do it all over again.
To close off, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus shows off how it looks on Nintendo Switch. To be brief, it looks exactly like the frantic arcade game has always looked, full of bell and whistles.
Bandai Namco has plenty in store for us in the coming year and we’re pretty excited. Now, if you’ll excuse us, some of us still have to decide on a Game of the Year for 2017. It’s been a hell of a year.
