After years in development No Man's Sky is finally here, at least on the PS4. Gamers have rushed into the unknown to explore the vast universe and according to Sean Murray one million discoveries were made in the first hour of release.

That's impressive given that Murray has claimed the game's world is so large that it would take decades to explore the entire universe.

Each planet and lifeform, when discovered, can be named by the player and when another player encounters it they'll see that name.

This is a pretty extraordinary milestone for the indie game, and with a PC release coming this week that number will surely rise.

No Man's Sky is now available on PS4.
