Sony Testing PlayStation Exclusive on Switch 2 Sparks Major Rumors

Reports claims PlayStation’s premier racer is already running on Nintendo’s next console — but the bigger story may be Sony’s portable ambitions.

A shocking new report circulating in the gaming world claims that one of PlayStation's most popular exclusive games might run on Nintendo's next-generation hardware. Recent rumors say that Gran Turismo 7 is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2.

If this turns out to be true, it could mean Sony is changing how it approaches platforms in a big way. This does not automatically mean that the game will be sold in stores on Nintendo's platform. As it stands, the information only says that the game can be played on the hardware, not how.

Still, the effects of these kinds of tests are big. There are two likely reasons why Sony is testing Gran Turismo 7 on Switch 2: either the company is exploring a possible port, or it is testing performance for hardware goals unrelated to Gran Turismo 7. For many fans, the first thing that comes to mind is that a port might come later.

After all, in the past few years, several PlayStation games have been released on systems other than PlayStation.

What seemed impossible at first is becoming increasingly normal. There is a link between this rumor and earlier ones that said a big playstation game might come out on Switch 2 in 2026, which would be a total surprise for fans. Podcaster Reece Reilly has hinted that Sony may release something unexpected for Nintendo devices in the next few years.

That's a great way to describe Gran Turismo 7. If a very realistic racing simulator that has been linked to PlayStation devices for a long time were to appear on a Nintendo system, it would be a big crossover. It's the kind of news that takes up most of a Nintendo Direct show in the middle of the year. Sony has brought some games to Nintendo systems in the past, but that was the only time it happened.

Even though a Sony-owned company developed MLB The Show, it was released only on Nintendo systems because Major League Baseball required it. On the other hand, LEGO Horizon Adventures is a more direct joint project involving a PlayStation-published game. Still, Sony's larger mindset has changed over time. The company has spoken publicly about Nintendo devices as places where younger or less serious gamers can "graduate" to a PlayStation console.

Putting out certain titles could be more of a long-term plan to grow the business than a quick way to boost sales.

But another theory is just as strong. There have been rumors that Sony is returning to the market for specialized portable gaming hardware. Instead of devices focused on streaming like the PlayStation Portal, the company may be working on a real mobile device that can run games locally. That being said, trying Gran Turismo 7 on a Switch 2 might not have anything to do with Nintendo. Instead, it could be about testing how well portable-grade silicon works.

Since Switch 2 is likely to have much more power than its predecessor, Sony could use it as a model for its own handheld goals.

This would be similar to how well the company did with small games during the PSP era. There might be a new generation with both a standard home console and a hybrid or handheld device that can run the same software library locally. In that case, Gran Turismo 7 running on Switch 2 hardware would just show that Sony's top-tier original games can be ported to handheld devices without losing too much quality.

Sony's growing attitude toward platform releases is another thing to consider. In the past few years, the company has released several first-party games on PC after first being available only on PlayStation. This plan has helped Sony get the most money out of their ever-expensive development funds while still maintaining their reputation for selling high-quality consoles during launch windows.

It's not impossible that the same model could be used for Nintendo devices.

Sony could test a few games on Switch 2, see how well they perform and how many copies they sell, and then decide whether to expand the program. If early tests show that they work, more exclusives could be added. Gran Turismo 7 is a great game for this kind of testing. Racing games usually do well across multiple platforms, and the idea of a visually stunning simulation racer that could run on a Nintendo device and be taken with you would be a great way to sell it. But at the same time, Sony would probably be careful.

The company wants to ensure its core customers still see PlayStation as the best place to play its biggest games. As of now, there is no clear word on whether Gran Turismo 7 will be coming to Switch 2. Only that the game is said to be working on the hardware is true. But when you add in the persistent reports of a shocking 2026 release and the new rumors about Sony's portable future, things get a lot.

We still don't know whether there will be a major platform crossover or just a technical test underway behind the scenes. If Gran Turismo 7 ever comes out on Switch 2, it will be one of the most surprising things to happen in the history of video games. more interesting.
