Just days after Diablo 4’s early access release, the franchise’s general manager Rod Fergusson has announced two new expansions for the game are already in the works. This is the first time that Blizzard has discussed Diablo’s future content outside of season passes.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Rod Fergusson revealed Diablo 4 developers are already working on seasons one and two, game patches and two brand new expansions for the game, despite it not even being fully released. He said: “As I sit here we're about to launch the main game, we're finishing up season one, we're working on season two, we're working on expansion one, we're kicking off expansion two - all that is happening right now."

In April, Blizzard told Game Informer that the game will receive updates every three months which will add new storylines tied in with new mechanics and features. Two patches have already been rolled out since the launch of Diablo’s early access. These patches balanced class builds, Paragon glyphs as well as other hotfixes.

Diablo 4 is a live service game, meaning there is going to be a consistent stream of new content added on a regular basis. This comes after Diablo 3’s second planned expansion was cancelled in 2016 due to a lack of staffing, which meant the third game in the series did not receive much additional content.

The latest instalment in Blizzard’s Diablo series is scheduled for a full release on 6 June 2023 and has already received glowing reviews from early access players.
