Asobo Job Listing Teases A Plague Tale's Future

The series appears to have several paths ahead, from another Sophia-led story to an older Amicia returning years later.

The future of the series may already be taking shape behind the scenes, even though there has been no formal announcement of what comes next. The biggest clue comes from recent job postings connected to the team behind the series, including a listing published on August 27.

Several positions remain open, and the wording used in those listings is interesting because applicants are invited to join the experienced team responsible for A Plague Tale, A Plague Tale: Innocence, A Plague Tale: Requiem, and the newest entry, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.

One particular internship listing goes a little further.

It describes the opportunity as joining the team behind the A Plague Tale license and helping create an ambitious unannounced game. The positions mentioned across the listings include level designers, gameplay programmers, camera system designers, VFX artists, and character artists.

Those roles alone do not confirm what the studio is making, but the repeated connection to the A Plague Tale team makes another game a reasonable possibility. There is still room for interpretation. A studio can promote its veteran developers because of their experience without necessarily saying they are making another game in the same franchise.

Someone joining the team could work alongside developers who made the previous entries while contributing to an entirely different project. The phrase “ambitious unannounced game” also leaves plenty of room for possibilities. It could describe a larger or more ambitious A Plague Tale project, but it could just as easily refer to a new genre, setting, or type of story.

The business side also makes another entry believable. A Plague Tale: Innocence was previously reported to have passed one million sales, although a more recent franchise-wide figure is not available from the information discussed here. A Plague Tale: Requiem later reached three million sales, with that milestone being reported about a year after release.

Around that time, the publisher and developer renewed their partnership for another game, which eventually became the latest entry in the series.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy does not have a clear public sales figure yet, making it difficult to judge its performance with certainty. Player counts alone also do not tell the whole story. If you compare the PC numbers for the newest game with Requiem, they appear to be broadly in the same range.

That comparison mainly reflects Steam, however, and console performance can be very different. A game could perform similarly on PC while selling less or more on PlayStation or other consoles. The scale of the franchise matters here as well.

These are not $200 million productions that need blockbuster sales to recover their costs. The games generally take around three to four years to develop and operate with much smaller budgets than the biggest AAA releases. That means the series does not necessarily need to sell 10 million copies for another project to make business sense.

Taken as a whole, the franchise may be somewhere around five to seven million copies, based on the figures discussed, so expecting every individual game to reach the sales level of the industry's biggest releases would not make much sense.

The job postings therefore become more interesting when you look at them alongside the franchise's history.

If a studio repeatedly tells potential employees that they will work with the people behind A Plague Tale, there is a reason to wonder why that team is being highlighted. It could simply be a way of showing applicants that they will learn from an experienced group.

Another project in the series is also possible. Neither interpretation is confirmed, but the second one fits the broader picture. There is another important reason to believe the series could continue beyond Amicia. The franchise has already experimented with the idea of telling stories through different characters and periods.

That opens the door to a larger universe instead of making every game another chapter in Amicia and Hugo's lives. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy demonstrates that the studio can introduce new protagonists while keeping familiar themes and connections to the world. One obvious direction would be another Sophia game. The ending leaves room for Sophia to have more stories to tell, which gives the developers considerable freedom.

Because her history is not as thoroughly explored as Amicia's, another adventure could be placed almost anywhere that fits the established lore. You could imagine a story from another period of her life that was never previously mentioned, much like a character who has supposedly experienced many adventures even though only a few have been shown in games.

A second option would be to move much farther away from the established characters.

The plague has been presented as something cyclical, capable of returning across different periods. The newest story expands that idea by showing another period and another set of characters connected to the same larger phenomenon. That means a future game could jump to a completely different time and location, introduce an entirely new cast, and still remain part of the same universe.

The ending of Requiem can also be viewed as a possible hint toward a much later setting. Nothing makes a modern-day or far-future story inevitable, but the recurring nature of the plague gives the developers a framework for moving across centuries. A future protagonist would not need to be directly related to Amicia or Hugo to tell a meaningful story. The same supernatural cycle could provide the connection.

Still, another Amicia game may be the most appealing option. Requiem gave her a major role, and the newest game brings her back again at the end. That appearance was not strictly necessary, which makes it easy to read as fan service or as a reminder that her story may not be completely finished.

Her return also gives the developers a way to keep one of the series' most recognizable characters involved without forcing the next game to immediately repeat the same timeline. The smartest way to do that could be to move the story forward by several decades.

Amicia is still young during Requiem, so bringing her back in her thirties, forties, or even fifties would allow the developers to tell a different kind of story.

Sophia could age alongside her, and the two could return as experienced figures rather than simply continuing where the previous game stopped. That approach could even combine several ideas at once. Instead of choosing between Amicia, Sophia, and a new generation, a future game could use both established characters while introducing new ones.

Amicia might carry most of the story while Sophia takes a substantial supporting role, or their parts could be divided more evenly. The pair could encounter new characters, deal with another outbreak, and use what they learned from earlier events to guide people facing the same threat.

It would also solve a timeline problem. Having another massive event happen immediately after Requiem could make the series' lore feel repetitive. Giving the characters twenty or thirty years of breathing room would make a new outbreak feel more believable within the story.

By then, both women could have lives and experiences that shape how they respond to the return of the plague. The possibility of returning even later is also there. The actresses who portray the characters are young enough that the studio could theoretically leave the franchise alone for years before bringing them back.

A decade-long gap would not prevent a future story from working, especially if the developers want to let the characters age naturally.

For now, the clearest takeaway is that A Plague Tale appears to have room to continue in several different forms. Another Sophia adventure would build on an existing character, a new period could expand the mythology, and an older Amicia and Sophia could bring the series back to familiar faces without simply repeating the earlier games.

The job listings do not prove which path the developers have chosen, but they do suggest that the team is working toward something substantial. If another game is being developed, the franchise has already done much of the groundwork needed to make it flexible.

It can move backward, forward, or sideways through its timeline, introduce new protagonists, or return to characters players already know. That gives the next project plenty of options while keeping the central idea of the series intact. For now, another A Plague Tale game remains unconfirmed, but the evidence leaves a continuation looking like a realistic possibility rather than a distant hope.
