Destiny 2: Renegades Guide | How To Beat The Renegades Legendary Campaign

Conquer the Renegades Legendary Campaign fast with builds, weapons, and survival tips that actually work.

Game Guide by Ornstein on  Dec 13, 2025

The Renegades Legendary Campaign is one of the easiest high-difficulty story campaigns in Destiny 2 so far. At first glance, it can even feel like a regular playthrough because enemies often do not show the usual sword icons that indicate a big level gap.

Compared to earlier legendary story campaigns, this one is far more forgiving while still offering some challenging sections and dense enemy encounters.

Even though the campaign is easier, it still demands focus, especially if you play solo. A full fireteam of three will breeze through many encounters, but solo runs will naturally feel tougher.

The key takeaway is simple: you should absolutely attempt the Legendary Campaign in Renegades. Clearing it on legend rewards a brand-new piece of exotic armor for the character you complete it on, making the effort more than worth it for the powerful new exotics.

Overall Strategy For Renegades Legendary Difficulty

The enemy density in the Renegades Legendary Campaign can be intense. Many areas spawn wave after wave of foes, and it is easy to get overwhelmed if your setup cannot clear groups quickly.

Because of this, crowd control and add-clearing are the most important strengths your build should have. You want abilities and weapons that chew through large packs of enemies while still letting you handle tougher targets.

You should also keep at least one source of strong precision damage in every loadout. Certain enemies, including walker-style bosses, are quite tanky and rely on you hitting specific weak points.

Going in with only close-range weapons and no precision option will make some encounters drag on and feel much harder than they need to be.

Best Titan Builds For The Renegades Legendary Campaign

As a Titan, you can lean into aggressive melee and defensive stasis playstyles that thrive in dense encounters. One standout option is an infinite melee build centered around Insurmountable Skullfort.

With the right setup, you can chain powered melee attacks almost endlessly, shredding groups of enemies while constantly regenerating health and ability energy. This style fits the high-add nature of the Renegades missions very well and keeps you in control of every fight.

Another excellent Titan choice is a Stasis build using Icefall Mantle. This setup turns you into a tanky front-line force with powerful damage resistance and strong area denial.

Stasis abilities and aspects can freeze or slow large clusters of enemies, letting you lock down entire rooms before they can overwhelm you. For the Renegades Legendary Campaign, this level of control is incredibly valuable, especially in tight spaces or during longer holdout sections.

Both of these Titan builds focus on crowd control and survivability, which are exactly what you want in this campaign. If you choose one of them, you will find it much easier to stay alive and clear rooms quickly, even when enemy waves get chaotic.

Best Warlock Builds For The Renegades Legendary Campaign

For Warlock mains, an Arc-focused “arc buddy” setup is one of the strongest options you can bring into the Renegades Legendary Campaign. An arc buddy build constantly applies jolt to enemies you hit, causing chain lightning and bonus damage to nearby targets.

Combined with your healing tools and rifts, your floating turrets and arc souls can handle a huge amount of combat for you, automatically clearing smaller enemies while you focus on priorities.

A second powerful Warlock option is a Void grenade-spam build using Contraverse Hold. With this exotic, you can throw enhanced Void grenades—such as Vortex Grenades or Scatter Grenades—over and over again.

In high-density sections of the campaign, a single well-placed Vortex Grenade can clear an entire room of adds. Since Void builds now often get two grenades to start with, this style becomes even more potent and lets you control every choke point you encounter.

Both Warlock builds shine in the Renegades environment because they combine damage, control, and safety. Constant grenades, rifts, and turret-style support make legendary difficulty feel far more manageable, especially when you are holding an area against multiple waves of enemies.

Best Hunter Builds For The Renegades Legendary Campaign

If you prefer Hunter, several familiar playstyles still work extremely well in Renegades. Grapple melee builds that were popular in earlier seasons remain very strong.

Mobility, aggressive movement, and high single-target burst let you dive in, delete a threat, and get out before enemies can focus you. This style is especially good for quickly eliminating dangerous champions or high-priority enemies in busy arenas.

Invisibility-focused Hunters are also in a great spot. Exotic armor like Graviton Forfeit and Omnioculus has received strong buffs, making stealth builds much more attractive.

With these exotics, you can chain invisibility, reposition constantly, and keep your fireteam safe with frequent damage reduction and escape tools. In the Renegades Legendary Campaign, where density is high and flanking enemies can catch you off guard, this kind of invisibility safety net is incredibly valuable.

Whether you choose a grapple build or an invisibility build, the main goal is still the same: secure reliable crowd control and survivability. As long as your Hunter setup can handle groups and keep you alive under pressure, it will perform well in this campaign.

Recommended Weapons And Precision Damage Options

Beyond your subclass and exotic armor, weapon choice matters a lot for the Renegades Legendary Campaign. You should always include at least one weapon with strong precision damage.

Walker-style enemies in this campaign are very tanky unless you consistently hit their critical spots. Their crits are located in the “eye” or window on the front, and there is also a weak point in the back. However, circling behind them is often risky and not always practical during heavy fights.

A sniper rifle is a classic solution for these encounters, letting you sit at range and destroy critical points quickly. Another excellent option is the new special legendary hand cannon Uncivil Discourse.

This weapon combines precision damage with strong overall performance, and it can melt these tanky targets much faster than many close-range guns. If your loadout is filled only with shotguns, SMGs, or other short-range options, these walker fights will feel much slower and more dangerous.

Try pairing a precision weapon like Uncivil Discourse or a sniper with a strong add-clear primary and a burst-damage heavy weapon. This gives your build answers for every situation you will see in the Renegades Legendary Campaign, from hordes of trash mobs to beefy mini-bosses.

Dealing With Ablative Shields

Throughout the Renegades story, you will frequently encounter enemies using special defenses known as Ablative Shields. These shields do not go down the same way as normal elemental barriers. Instead, they are overloaded by rapid, continuous damage. The faster you hit them, the quicker they collapse.

Automatic weapons such as auto rifles and machine guns are ideal for burning through Ablative Shields. Sustained fire from these weapons strips the shield in moments, letting you kill the target before it can cause problems. Charged melee attacks are also extremely effective. In many cases, a single powered melee is enough to break these shields outright, opening the enemy up to follow-up damage.

When building for the Renegades Legendary Campaign, consider including at least one rapid-fire option specifically to handle these shielded targets. It will save time and reduce frustration in many mid-mission encounters.

The Fire And Ice Exotic Mission In The Campaign

The most difficult section of the Renegades Legendary Campaign for many players is the Fire And Ice exotic mission that appears in the middle of the story.

This mission is where you earn the exotic sword Praxic Blade, the lightsaber-style weapon that defines this expansion. Because Fire And Ice is a full exotic mission, it features more complex mechanics than regular story steps, including puzzles, unusual objectives, and navigation challenges.

Expect tricky areas where finding the correct path forward is not obvious. There are hidden routes, secret passageways, and sections that reward careful observation. Going in with a patient mindset and a flexible build will help a lot. Crowd control and survivability are still important here, but awareness of your surroundings becomes just as critical.

Once you secure Praxic Blade, the rest of the campaign becomes much easier. The sword is extremely strong, offering fast attacks, ranged throws, and excellent add-clear potential.

Many players continue using Praxic Blade for the entire remainder of the Renegades Legendary Campaign, and it is often more than enough to handle any encounter that follows.

Keep in mind, though, that wielding Praxic Blade can conflict with some melee-focused builds. Because you are holding a sword, you may not be able to use your charged melee abilities as frequently or in the same way as before.

If your build relies heavily on powered melee attacks, you may need to swap off Praxic Blade temporarily or adjust your playstyle to compensate.

Surviving In The Lawless Frontier

A significant portion of the Renegades Legendary Campaign takes place in the Lawless Frontier, the new activity space introduced with this expansion. This area has unique health rules and can feel very different from the rest of Destiny 2.

Similar to the Nether, your health pool is larger here, but you do not naturally regenerate health over time in the same way. This makes every point of healing far more important.

Because of this, you should bring weapons and abilities that can restore health. Perks like Heal Clip or any source of self-healing will dramatically increase your survivability in the Lawless Frontier.

If you do not have strong healing in your build, pay close attention to the environment. Scattered around the area are breakable barrel caches and other destructible objects. When destroyed, these often drop health and ammo, acting as lifelines during tough fights.

Playing carefully and always knowing where your next heal is coming from is the secret to surviving extended engagements in the Lawless Frontier during the Renegades Legendary Campaign.

Upgrading Your Renegades Abilities With Spider

During Lawless Frontier campaign missions, you gain access to special Renegades abilities. The game forces you to use these a few times early on, and at first they may not seem impressive. However, these abilities can be upgraded and turned into powerful tools that greatly improve your experience in legendary difficulty.

Visit Spider, the vendor tied to the Renegades systems. There, you can spend the resource earned simply by playing the campaign and completing Lawless Frontier missions to upgrade your Renegades abilities.

For example, the small drone that initially only heals you can be enhanced so that it not only restores health but also grants ability energy and super energy. With a few upgrades, this drone becomes a major part of your sustain and rotation.

Because the currency used for these upgrades drops naturally as you progress through the Renegades Legendary Campaign, upgrading your Renegades abilities is essentially free power.

Investing in these enhancements turns difficult Lawless Frontier sections into much smoother experiences and helps you cruise through the rest of the story on legendary difficulty.
