God of War Ragnarök introduces a brand-new weapon for Kratos to wield—the Draupnic Spear. It’s pretty powerful, especially when you can fully upgrade it and spec it out with Runic Attacks.
Here’s every Runic Attack for the Draupnic Spear and where you should be on the lookout for them in your God of War Ragnarök playthrough.
Light Runic Attacks
Elemental Siphon
Once you obtain the Draupnir Spear, your first light runic attack is Elemental Siphon. It allows you to siphon an enemy’s elemental power if your spear connects. This attack can also be upgraded to provide you with a shield while charging. It’s a useful early tool, but you’ll find even better ones later in the game.
Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers
In Helheim, you’ll find Thrust of a Thousand Soldiers in a nearly unavoidable chest. This powerful attack embeds multiple spears into your enemies. If you mash R1 after the initial hit, you’ll plant even more spears, which you can later detonate for massive damage.
Mountain Splitter
During your second visit to Svartalfheim, you’ll meet Durlin again, who gives you a side quest to retrieve a hammer. Completing the quest rewards you with Mountain Splitter, a runic attack that sends slicing blades of wind toward enemies. Hitting R1 in sync with each swing releases two blades, and upgrades allow you to add even more slices. Though it requires precise timing, it becomes a devastating attack when mastered.
Whisper of the World
The final light runic attack for the Draupnir Spear is Whisper of the World. You’ll find it in Vanaheim's Crater near the Jungle Mystic Gateway. This attack pulls enemies in and then blasts them back with a powerful gust of wind, dealing damage and providing excellent crowd control. To reach it, you’ll need to destroy some brambles with your sigil arrows after navigating a few jumps.
Heavy Runic Attacks
Artillery of the Ancients
One of the best heavy runic attacks for the spear is Artillery of the Ancients, which you get during the Creatures of Prophecy main quest in Vanaheim. This attack rains spears across the battlefield, some of which stick in enemies or the ground. You can detonate them by pressing the triangle for additional damage.
Hind of the Four Winds
Later in the story, you’ll face a Flame Phantom in Muspelheim, which drops the Hind of the Four Winds. This runic attack creates a cyclone that wreaks havoc for several seconds. Upgrading this skill allows you to summon more cyclones, enhancing their destructive potential.
Honor the Fallen
In Vanaheim’s Crater, near the Western Plains Mystic Gateway, you can find Honor the Fallen. It’s a heavy dive attack that knocks enemies back. At max level, holding the button charges the move, delivering an even stronger version of the slam. To obtain it, use spears to hit three glowing points on a rock wall, then detonate them to access the chest.
Finger of Ruin
The final heavy runic attack for the spear is Finger of Ruin, found in the last Odin Raven chest after shooting down all 48 Ravens. This runic attack releases a massive AOE tornado that repeatedly throws enemies into the air, making it one of the most powerful crowd control tools for the spear.
