When it comes to God of War Ragnarök, picking the right armor can make a huge difference in how you handle combat. Whether you’re all about going on the offensive or prefer a more defensive approach, there’s a set out there for you.
Here are some of the best armor sets in the game that you’ll definitely want to check out.
Survival Set
Unbelievably, among the most balanced and practical sets available in the whole game is the starting armor. Though not the most flashy, this is the one if you're looking for a well-rounded set that requires little additional resources to maximize. Though it's the only armor that levels almost all of its stats with every upgrade, the Survival Set lacks any fancy ability attached. Ideal for those Souls players who wish to finish the game with the lowest gear without feeling as though it is hindering their ability.
Radiance Set
Found while traversing the Forbidden Sands in Alfheim, the Radiance Set is among the most useful sets you could grab early on. It comes with Realm Shift, which lets Kratos slow down time following a last-second dodge, providing a great window to counter-attack almost any opponent. Players who like to play aggressively and wish to master those ideal dodges will find this set ideal. It also provides a good boost to runic damage; although other sets later on might outclass it, early hours are quite helpful.
Guiding Light Set
Arguably one of the simpler sets to locate, The Guiding Light Set can be obtained by completing the Guiding Light favor and touring the Lake of Nine in Midgard. Apart from being among the more aesthetically pleasing armaments in the game, this set emphasizes improving Kratos's luck stat, so raising your chances of obtaining critical strikes. Better still, it can set off mini-explosions when you strike foes, which will help you when you are up against tough enemies.
Fallen Stars Set
An armor fit for a God of War. Found in the Crater of Vanaheim, the Fallen Stars Set adds some strong buffs and visual flair. It increases your runic and special attacks, so make sure your foes will see stars following every strike. For those who wish for a more defensive build, it also helps since it lessens the damage you incur during runic attacks and shortens their cooldowns. You are good to go just toss those crystalline shards into the Wishing Well.
Dragon-Scaled Set
Kratos should be proud to wear the Dragon Scaled armor since he was the first to slay a dragon in centuries. Found in Vanaheim's Crater as well, this set gives stackable buffs defense every time you land a hit. Players who are confident with blocks and parries will find it ideal since effective blocks also increase your shield damage by 50%. This set is absolutely essential if you enjoy tanking hits and returning damage. It also looks fantastic.
Undying Pyres Set
Sleeping on the Undying Pyres Set from Muspelheim is a mistake. Though it's simpler in comparison to the other armor in that realm, it's still quite good. Those who like abusing permafrost and immolation, as well as Maelstrom, will find this set lets his attacks get more damage the more hits he lands in a row. While keeping a continuous streak of hits is difficult, for experienced players this armor can make difficult encounters simple.
Fate Breaker Set
Apart from the Survival Set, which you get at the beginning of the game, the Fate Breaker Set is among the easiest to obtain; it shows in Kratos's inventory just before the major events of Ragnarok start. This is another well-rounded set that greatly increases strength, defense, vitality, and even luck. It also provides Kratos with the Raging Aftermath state, which awards bonuses upon leaving Spartan Rage and accelerates Spartan Rage. Fitting for the last assault on Asgard, this set also comes with a matching one for Atreus.
Berserker Set
Apart from being among the best in the game, the Berserker Set is also among the hardest to obtain. To get it, you will have to eliminate three of the optional Berserker boss battles; trust me, those fights are not lighthearted. This set is all about risk against reward; it greatly increases your melee damage following a runic attack but also results in more damage taken in return. Designed for those who have perfected the combat system, the Berserker armor can make Kratos almost unbreakable; be ready to pay the cost.
Zeus Set
The Zeus armor can raise your melee and runic damage by 80%, but wearing the full set means Kratos will take 180% more damage from enemies. If you play carefully, this makes the Zeus armor incredibly high-risk and highly rewarding. This set is for you if you are very comfortable with the mechanics of this game, especially on higher-difficulty settings like Give Me God of War.
To maximize the armor's potential, focus on building a strategy around heavy offense and evasion. You need to kill them before they kill you. I love that you can do a glass cannon build even in this game.
Steinbjorn Set
Though it takes some effort to unlock, Steinbjorn's Armor is worth every second. Using the Mystic Heirloom, you will be able to awaken (and permanently put to sleep) the sleeping trolls dispersed over the world, completing a particular hidden quest. Once you have it, though, this set renders Kratos into a complete tank.
Not only does it give health enthusiasts what no other set offers, but after suffering damage, Kratos can recover health with every accurate hit, so providing almost limitless health regeneration as long as you keep your combo going. Some players worry it may get nerfed given its strength, but for now, it remains among the best armor sets in the game.
