Hogwarts Legacy Guide | How To Beat Ranrok Dragon (Final Boss)

Your ultimate guide to conquering the epic final boss fight against Ranrok Dragon in Hogwarts Legacy.

The Ranrok Dragon is the last boss in Hogwarts Legacy, and this will help you beat this boss if you're having trouble. There are some important tips at the end.

Phase One: Attack Pattern and Watch for the Floating Rock

As soon as the first starts, you'll see Ranrok fly up and shoot flames at you. Dodge and roll out of the way, and then he'll usually do two ranged attacks. Dodge or roll again, or hold up your shield. You need to keep an eye out for a floating red rock—watch the top right of your screen.

You have to wait and see what color that rock is because you can't damage Ranrok yet. When it turns purple, hit it with a purple spell, and only then can you damage the dragon. When you see the prompt for ancient magic, that's your opportunity to deal damage.

Watch for R1 prompts—those are moments when you can throw a boulder back at him for heavy damage. You'll usually find these right after he throws flames at you. You should reserve your ancient magic, and with good timing, you can make it through phase one.

Collect and Prepare: Healing and Ancient Magic

Make sure you collect the blue, glowing bits on the ground because those fill your Ancient Magic bar. Prior to the fight, you can pick up healing potions—look for green glowing plants on the ground. During the fight, you'll want to maximize the effects of ancient magic by building combos through basic spell shooting.

That's why you don't need a lot of offensive spells equipped here. With the right traits, which I'll explain later, you can get the most out of your spell combos.

Phase Two: More Orbs, More Pressure

Ranrok is going to throw rocks at you at this point. Again, avoid the ball of the right color and keep casting the right color spell. If a bright red orb is coming at you, you need to run back and avoid it.

Use a purple spell to hit the purple ball when it appears. You still need to watch the dragon's movements in the background while doing this. If you're quick enough, you'll catch the R1 prompts and throw rocks right back at him for more damage.

It's my personal preference not to use Target Lock so I can look around freely and find those orbs more easily. You can strafe around the dragon using the left and right thumbsticks on the controller. As soon as the Ranrok lands, dodge because he'll blast flames at you.

Final Phase: Dodge, React, and Unleash Ancient Magic

This final phase is when more orbs will appear, so be ready to match the spell color with the orb color again. If you've unlocked the upgraded dodge talent, you'll be able to move quicker and reach those orbs faster. If the area turns red, just get out of the blast radius.

When you're near the end of the fight, keep watching the dragon and those orbs. I went into this final stretch with no healing potions at all, and at one point, I had just a sliver of health left—you couldn't even see it. But by reserving my ancient magic for the final stage, I managed to take him down by hitting the last orb.

Post-Fight Tips: Upgrade and Customize Your Gear

It's really important that you don't skip this part. Adding traits to your gear is important, especially if it's a famous gear. You can give them level 3 traits, and don't forget to improve them too. You should upgrade gear where the offense stat increases. But you can also upgrade gear that boosts your defense, depending on your playstyle.
