In Hogwarts Legacy, you can use the power of the Unforgivable Curses, which will make you an unbeatable force in the Wizarding World. To unlock these spells, you need to meet some requirements, but once you have them, it'll change how you play the game.
Unlocking the Unforgivable Curses
To unlock the Unforgivable Curses, you need to progress through one of the game's relationship storylines and meet specific level requirements. Your house choice does not affect access to these spells, nor do any of your decisions before level 16.
The key to unlocking them lies with Sebastian Sallow. His quests always begin with "In the Shadow of", and there are four required story quests you must complete before gaining access to the Unforgivable Curses. Once you reach level 16, you can choose to follow this dark path.
Keep an eye on your owl mail, as some relationship chains require you to interact with Sebastian through simple conversations. As soon as you reach level 16 and receive an owl from him, you'll be ready to unlock the first of the three curses.
Crucio: The Torture Curse
You need to finish the quest 'In the Shadow of the Study' to unlock Getting Crucio, also called the Torture Curse. Wizards fear Crucio because it can cause unbearable pain. It also serves as an effective crowd control spell, leaving your target cursed, as indicated by the green Xs above their heads.
Cursed enemies take additional damage, which can be amplified further by investing spell points into your Dark Arts Talent Tree.
Like all Unforgivable Curses, Crucio has a long cooldown. To get the most out of its power, you might want to buy Crucio Mastery. This skill makes targets that are cursed shoot bullets that infect nearby enemies with the Curse.
When you pair this with Enduring Curse, the spells on your enemies will last longer. Another critical talent is Blood Curse, which lets you hurt all cursed targets when you hit one.
You can use the second level of skills when you reach level 16, so it's wise to save points until you can unlock Crucio and make the most of it.
Imperio: The Mind Control Curse
After learning Crucio, you will receive more owl mail from Sebastian. Once you reach level 17, he will summon you for another mission. Completing the quest In the Shadow of Time will grant you access to Imperio, also known as the Mind Control Curse.
Imperio allows you to control an enemy and force them to fight on your behalf. Although you cannot manually command them, they will automatically attack other foes using their own spells and abilities.
To get the most out of it, buy Imperio Mastery, which makes enemies that are controlled by your mind harm the people they hit. As many enemies as possible, being cursed is essential for the Dark Arts tree, and this skill is a great way to do that.
Avada Kedavra: The Killing Curse
It takes a lot more level to cast Avada Kedavra than it does to cast the other two curses. You can't get it until you hit level 28. There are ways to level up faster, even if it seems like a long time. Look out for tips on how to get XP quickly if you're having a problem.
Go on the "In the Shadow of the Relic" quest to get Avada Kedavra. Don't worry if you pick the wrong dialogue choice and don't learn the spell during the quest. You can always go back to Sebastian later and ask him to teach it to you.
The strongest spell in the game is Avada Kedavra. It kills your target right away, which makes it very powerful. Even more impressive is its learning skill. When you kill an enemy with Avada Kedavra, all other enemies that are cursed are also killed. So, if you set up your gear right, you can quickly wipe out a whole area.
Best Dark Arts Talents
Now that you have all three curses, choose the best talents. The Dark Arts tree is all about making as many enemies suffer from curses as possible. Curses can be cast with up to four talents: Stupefy, Expelliarmus, Flipendo, and Arresto Momentum. You don't have to use all four, but picking the one that fits your play style will make your dark magic much better.
Blood Curse is a must-have because it makes all targets that are cursed take damage together. Crucio Mastery is also critical because it lets you curse enemies with weapons. Enduring Curse makes it easier to stay in control of your enemies during battle by making curses last longer. Imperio Mastery allows your controlled enemies to curse others they attack, further amplifying the effectiveness of your spells.
If you find yourself struggling with health, Curse Sapper is a valuable talent that restores some health whenever you defeat a cursed enemy. This is particularly useful in more complex difficulties where combat can become overwhelming. Finally, Avada Kedavra Mastery is the ultimate talent to invest in, as it allows you to wipe out all cursed enemies with a single casting of the Killing Curse.
Finally…
With these talents, your Dark Arts build becomes nearly unstoppable. The synergy between the Unforgivable Curses and the Dark Arts tree creates an incredibly powerful playstyle, making you feel like you're bending the game to your will.
