With over 70 options, choosing can be a hard sell

Mazo Talismans are one of the easiest ways to improve your game. They are incredibly useful and varied items that provide different kinds of bonuses. They can shift your strategies and allow you to explore many different ways to play the game.

You can get a total of 5 Mazo Talisman Slots, with the first upgrade costing 10 Musubi, the second costing 20 Musubi, and the third 50 Musubi. While the first and second ones are relatively inexpensive, the third costs a lot, and it's probably best to hold off until you get later into the game.

With over 70 Mazo Talismans in the game, you might get confused about which ones are the best to use. Worry not, as this guide will give an overview of the best ones.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Sacred Tamagushi

It's an incredible Mazo Talisman that you acquire very early in the game. You unlock it at the Yuminari Lake after purging 8 defilements. This Talisman increases Soh’s attack power based on the number of crystals.

As you progress through, you’ll gain increasingly more Crystals, massively boosting Soh’s Attack Power. It is good when paired with Terrapin, Orochi, and Nekomata, which reduce the cost of Villager role-switching, or with other Talismans that decrease the usage of Crystals.

Using cheaper units and generally being tight with your purse will save you a lot of Crystals, so make Soh a beast while fighting, making this one of the best Mazo Talismans in the game.

Rabbit’s Cup & Synergy

The Rabbit’s Cup slightly increases the speed at which your Tsuba Guard abilities recover. The rest is more or less self-explanatory. The Tsuba Guards are incredible, so even the smallest reduction in their cooldown leads to a big boost in your gameplay. You gain this by defeating Yatsurao without using Tsuba Guards.

This is great when paired with Synergy. Synergy allows the in-active Tsuba Guards to progress through their cooldowns. You can already imagine how broken this is with the Rabbit’s Cup. You gain this by defeating Yatsukahagi in less than 3 minutes.

Grief & Pleasure, Happiness & Anger

Happiness & Anger weaken Soh while giving a small boost to the villagers. Requires you to purge eight defilements in the Enri Village. This is, at first glance, worse than Grief & Pleasure, but both are equally good. There are some levels where villagers are just plain better than Soh, so upgrading them adds incremental value. Grief and Pleasure work in the opposite direction, strengthening Soh while weakening the villagers. Overall, both are equally useful and utilitarian.

Deva, Bodhisattva, Nyorai

These Talismans are tiered, providing an increase in Soh’s attack power. The first one isn’t that noteworthy, but the latter two are incredible, especially when used together. Bodhisattva and Nyorai, when paired, make Soh a powerhouse that can take on the toughest bosses.

Deva requires you to purge 10 defilements in Okuminyama Passage, while Bodhisattva needs you to do the same in Kiritake Village. Finally, Nyorai is unlocked much later in the game, needing you to purge 10 defilements in Yamasuso Lodging.
