Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess | The Best Tsuba Guards

A unique way to add more flavor to the game

Game Guide by Arne on  Nov 01, 2024

Tsuba Guards are special sword guards that give you access to special abilities. You can only equip one at the beginning, but after defeating Batsu, you’ll be able to unlock more slots. They do incredible amounts of damage and more. You’ll eventually get more Tsuba Guards, so you should unlock more slots as soon as you are able to. The second slot costs 20 Musubi, while the third costs 50 Musubi.

Each Tsuba Guard slot has its counter and cooldown, and while the cooldown won’t progress unless you have it active, having two is almost a game changer; you’ll no longer have to hold onto them preciously. They are mostly unlocked by clearing stages, either defilements or by completing repairs. There are 12 Tsuba Guards in the game, and this guide will look over the best ones.

Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Kijin’s Specter

Any Eldren Ring player knows how useful the Mimic is. Now take that, remove almost any disadvantages, and you will have Kijin’s Specter. This incredible Tsuba Guard split Soh’s spirit into two, creating a clone of him that copies all his abilities, basically doubling Soh’s damage output. To top it off, the spirit cannot be damaged or knocked back. To unlock this Tsuba Guard, you’ll need to ensure Yoshiro takes no damage in the Kiritake Village.

Taion’s Lightning

Speaking of damage output, the Taion Lightning is another one of the incredible Tsuba Guards. This lets Soh charge his blade, dealing incredible amounts of damage to the enemies nearby, and unleash a shockwave. Soh is invulnerable when it charges and has a great ability to use it overall. You can unlock it after defeating 15 Seethe with a Punishing Strike in Yamasusuo Village.

Taijo’s Favor

Taijo’s Favor shrouds all villagers in a holy aura that reduces all oncoming damage and prevents them from being knocked back. It is unlocked at the Moegi Ridge once you get to the shrine. This ability only works for a short deal of time but is nonetheless great, especially if you have a lot of low HP and cheap villagers.

Toda’s Snare

Another great Tsuba Guard is the Toda’s Snare, which lets you set three traps that explode in contact with the enemy. Very useful when dealing with many enemies. It is really good since you can use it before the night starts, letting you plan things out pretty effectively. It is unlocked when completing the Okuminyama Passage Shrine.

Overall, it is interesting that almost all the Tsuba Guards are useful at one point or another. If you ask people, their answers will always be very varied.
