Metaphor: ReFantazio | Follower Guide – Hulkenberg

Metaphor: ReFantazio is out, and it’s amazing. The game inherits or otherwise builds on many mechanics from Persona and SMT. One such mechanic is the companion system, or as the game calls it, Followers. Followers are your natural companions, who you fight and spend time with, and who let you give some benefits for doing so. 

Another follower gained throughout the main story, Hulkenberg, is a former knight who has all the hallmarks of an RPG Paladin. Her first rank is received automatically, and her rank-ups are accessible as you progress through the main story, so they’re fairly impossible to miss.

Hulkenberg Progression

• Rank 1: Automatically unlocked on 06/11
• Rank 2: Do the following when prompted:
  • Sounds like a worthy opponent.
  • Are you okay?
• Rank 3: Needs the Gauntlet Runner to be unlocked. Then, do the following responses when prompted –
  • I’m good at staying versatile
  • Push me harder!
  • This isn’t like you.
• Rank 4: Complete ‘Apprehend the real Kidnapper,’ then make the following responses when prompted –
  • I’m used to it.
• Rank 5: Make the following responses when prompted while in the Gauntlet Runner –
  • So, you’ll say nothing?
  • You don’t have to be.
• Rank 6: Make the following responses when prompted while in the Gauntlet Runner –
  • A bold move.
  • You’ve got this.
  • You show him.
  • If only to witness your victory.
• Rank 7: Your Wisdom needs to be level 4. Do the following responses when prompted –
  • You brought him to justice.
  • You are a model knight.
• Rank 8: Make the following responses when prompted while in the Gauntlet Runner –
  • But it’s not over yet.
  • I’ll forge our path forward.
  • You’re a true knight.

Hulkenberg Rank Rewards

• Rank 1: Gives you access to the Knight Archetype.
• Rank 2: Reduces the MAG cost of studying the Knight Lineage. She also gains the ability to defend the protagonist from attacks on his weakness.
• Rank 3: Lets you study the Magic Knight.
• Rank 4: Increases the skill inheritance slot for Knights to 2.
• Rank 5: Significantly reduces MAG cost for studying Knights and increases the amount of experience he gains when in reserve.
• Rank 6: Increases the skill inheritance slot for Knights to 3. Matches the amount of experience she gains when in reserve to the normal rate.
• Rank 7: Lets you study the Paladin and Dark Knight.
• Rank 8: Increases the skill inheritance slot for Knights to 4. This increases the probability that Hulkenberg will defend the protagonist from an attack on his weakness. She also gains the ability to study their unique Royal Archetype once they become available.
