Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom's return to the Monster Hunter franchise, where every hunt tests your skills, patience, and creativity. Built on the foundations of its predecessors, it's a memorable title that has enticed gamers with its relentless and intense quests and challenges.

As you progress to higher ranks in Monster Hunter Wilds, choosing the right armor sets becomes crucial for success. This guide will provide you with the recommended arm set at each stage of high-rank progression, as well as general weapon suggestions. The sets that are suggested will work with most weapon types, with some variations for specific weapons.

Early High-Rank Weapons

When you start in high rank, the Rathian Weapon Tree is a good choice for most weapon types. The Rathian weapons will give you a decent raw attack, 15% affinity, decent sharpness, and poison status that deals extra damage. Certain weapons may give you better options, but the Rathian weapons give you a balanced mix of damage and utility.

For weapons without a Rathian option, I would suggest the Ludroth and Barroth tree. It offers good attack, affinity, and paralysis status. The Nerscylla tree is ideal for hammers, giving you sleep status for powerful wake-up hits. For Gunlances, the Jaggi tree is a strong, decent choice with wide shelling and blast status.

Early High-Rank Armor

When you start out at a high rank, a good armor setup includes the following:

  • Bulaqchi Alpha Helmet: This will provide you with a Weakness Exploit. It's crafted from high-ranking small monsters in the Windward Plains.
  • Taloith Alpha Gloves: This will provide you with a Burst and Leap of Faith, useful for most weapons except the Great Sword.
  • Yian Kut-Ku Alpha Gloves: I recommend these for Great Sword users; they provide you with Agitator and Constitution.
  • Yian Kut-Ku Waist (Alpha or Beta): This will offer you with Agitator, with beta providing a decoration slot for customization.
  • Congalala Alpha Chest: Adds another point of burst.
  • Congalala Beta Legs: Provides you with burst and two-slot decorations.

This setup will give you a mix of offensive skills like Burst, Weakness, Exploit, and Agitator, making it pretty effective against most weapons. For Great Sword users, you'll want to swap out burst-focused pieces for Weakness, Exploit, and Agitator.

Commission Set

You'll be able to unlock the Commission set early and get a higher rank by obtaining commission tickets from the support ship. This site will give you strong skills like Agitator, Divine Blessing, and Quick Sheath, but requiring the tickets requires luck or a significant amount of Research Points. While it is powerful, it's not mandatory for progression.

HR 20 Unlocks: Guardian Ebony Set

At HR 20, the guardian Ebony said, becomes available, offering you powerful Burst skills. The setting includes:

  • Beta Helmet: It has two Bursts and two slot decorations.
  • Alpha Gloves: It has two Bursts and Divine Blessing.
  • Beta waist: it has one burst, a two-slot, and a one-slot decoration.

This will provide you with five Bursts, Divine Blessings, and multiple decoration slots. Making it a really effective set for most weapons; the bonuses will increase attack when maintaining a combo, extending the time window between hits.

HR 31 Unlocks: Apex Monster Armor

At HR 31, armor from the high-rank Apex monsters becomes available; while the Guardian Ebony Set is still pretty strong, the Nu Udra set is a good alternative for weapons that rely on guarding encounter attacks, offering you skills like Resentment and Counterstrike.

Final Armor Unlocks: Gore Magala

After completing the HR 41 story quest, the Gore Mangala set becomes available to you. This set focuses on evade-based skills and stamina management, with a powerful bonus involving the frenzy status.

Clearing frenzy grants you Bonus Affinity and raw attack, making this set really effective for endgame bills when paired with strong decorations.

Choosing the right armor set and weapon is important for progressing through high rank in monster Hunter wilds. By following these recommendations, you can build yourself an effective set that suits your weapons and needs.
