You face the Herald first. In Kalina, the first world, you find them at the end of the Day Realm. The fight is mostly about taking away the boss's shield, not getting hit by the same moves over and over, and doing damage when there are short openings.

Phase One – Shield Mechanics

At the start of the fight, The Herald attacks alongside two cannons positioned on each side of the arena. You cannot damage the boss directly because a shield protects them. Your first goal is to remove this shield.

The boss releases fire shockwaves that travel across the arena. You must roll in any direction to avoid them. Staying near the center of the arena, close to the available cover, helps you track these attacks.

At the same time, the cannons fire small projectiles that land on the ground and explode after a short delay. Red circles indicate where they will explode; you need to move away from those areas in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.

The Herald then uses a fire cannon to emit a laser across the arena. You can roll through the laser or use one of the covers to block it. During this attack, one cannon throws a ruptured object into the arena. You must hit this object with your backpack to send it back to The Herald, which removes one of the three shield bars.

When something breaks, it often lands near other events, such as explosions, shockwaves, or lasers. You should always stay out of the way of damage before throwing the thing back when it is safe. The shield breaks after this is done three times, and the Herald is then open to attack.

When the shield is down, you need to move close and attack the boss. A red circle appears beneath you, followed by a second circle closing in.

When the circles meet, an explosion occurs,s and The Herald restores their shield. You repeat this cycle until about thirty percent of the boss’s health is removed, which triggers the next phase.

Phase Two – Expanded Attack Patterns

At the start of the second phase, The Herald destroys one cover in the arena. The boss then summons four standard enemies and pauses their own attacks. You should defeat these enemies using your primary weapon so you can charge it for later use.

When The Herald resumes attacking, the core mechanics remain the same, but more attacks overlap. With one less cover, positioning becomes more limited.

The boss can now fire small fire projectiles while the cannons continue attacking. The laser sweeps across the arena twice in succession, moving from one side to the other. Fire shockwaves may also appear multiple times in a row.

You need to continue rolling over the shockwaves, and moving diagonally across the arena helps you avoid consecutive waves. The objective remains unchanged in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.

You destroy the three shield bars using the ruptured objects and attack during the vulnerable phase. Once you reduce the boss’s health to around sixty percent, the third phase begins.

Phase Three – No Cover Available

In the last step, The Herald breaks down the previous cover that was still there. You aren't safe from the weapons that are coming more and more now. Rolling is the main thing you do to keep from getting hurt.

The laser must now be avoided by rolling through it. You should roll toward the side the laser comes from, allowing you to pass through without taking damage. Aside from the lack of cover and the increased frequency of projectiles, the mechanics remain consistent with earlier phases.

You continue breaking the shield, dealing damage during each opening, and avoiding all attacks until The Herald is defeated in Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault.
