Octopath Traveler II Guide | Best Secondary Job For Each Character
Here are the best secondary jobs for each character in Octopath Traveler II.
Game Guide by Ornstein on Feb 15, 2025
As Octopath Traveler II lets players customize their characters using secondary jobs, these jobs boost each traveler's potential, making each more useful in battles. Any job pairing can be workable based on play style, but there are pairings that automatically unlock each character's potential to the maximum.
Here is a guide to each traveler's most suitable secondary job.
Agnea: Thief or Apothecary
The support character Agnea is amplified in her role by using the Apothecary job to give her healing options and excellent boons. Her latent ability does not favor this job more than Castti's, but it is useful in that it allows her to prolong support skills and debuffs for a longer time span.
If you prefer a more offense-based style of play, Thief is a great job to use. The Thief job permits Agnea to debuff enemies and support comrades using such support capabilities as HP Thief, enabling her to hurt enemies even when she is healing.
Castti: Inventor or Cleric
The team's primary healer, Castti, is greatly advantaged by the Cleric job, which introduces more healing capabilities and light-based magical attacks to her. The two work in conjunction to yield a support character that is a must on the team. Alternatively, the Inventor position permits a support-offense ratio.
Although it needs ingredients to use its capabilities, it is definitely worth it. The inventor's capabilities, such as the Changeable Catapult for close-range attacks and the Elemental Bomb Bottle for taking advantage of weak elements, transform Castti into a highly useful troop.
Hikari: Hunter or Armsmaster
Hikari thrives at close range, so jobs that provide him with more weapons work better. The Hunter job is a great starting job, adding to his weapons and providing more attacking options. Hikari, on the other hand, would enjoy playing Armsmaster. Once maxed out, Ochette is able to use legendary weapons and deliver annihilating skills, making them one of the most powerful physical attackers in the game.
Ochette's Beastling skills already position her to be a fantastic attacker, and adding the Thief job increases her attacking capability and debuff potential. This allows her to take out enemies in advance, making it easy for everyone else to follow up.
If you prefer to get maximum raw damage, the Warrior job is a fantastic option. It brings new weapons and high-damage melee attacks to her arsenal, making her a fantastic frontliner, given that Hikari is not on your team.
Osvald: Cleric or Arcanist
Osvald is already a fantastic magic castor, and adding Cleric job increases his attacking capability while adding a healing capability. Most of Octopath Traveler 2's enemies are vulnerable to light magic; hence, it is a strategic decision to use it.
The job of Arcanist is a better option in the late game, given that it also gives light and dark magical capabilities. The high JP cost of Arcanist talents is a high price to pay, but it is a price that is more than worth it, given the massive damage and support it brings to Osvald and everyone else.
Partitio: Dancer or Apothecary
Partitio excels in a support career, making Dancer a great career for it. It enhances his speed and allows him to buff or donate BP to comrades in a useful manner. If you prefer a defensive support career, the Apothecary career is also a great option.
It gives him healing potential, in addition to continuing to support comrades with donations of BP, allowing your hardest-hitting comrades to use their most brutal attacks without interference.
Temenos: Scholar or Conjurer
The natural support healer of Temenos benefits greatly from the Scholar career, which enhances his magical potential and allows him to use the Analyze talent. This skill is highly useful in determining weaknesses in the opposing side, allowing the team to hit vulnerable areas more effectively.
Late-stage builds prefer using the application of the Conjurer career. Although costly in terms of a high JP investment, its skills provide great support capabilities and elemental enhancement that greatly increases the strength of the party.
Throne: Dancer or Hunter
Throne is ideal when paired with a career that enhances her evasion capabilities and speed. The Dancer career allows her to be a supporting character, buffing comrades without harming them in return. Aside from that, the Ruinous Kick talent is helpful in destroying the shields of opposing forces.
The Hunter career, on the other hand, enhances her weapons and allows her to use talents such as Precise Shot, which allows her to hit multiple times in a turn. In whichever option, Throne is likely to be one of the first to be engaged in battle, providing a head start to your team.
Finally…
Choosing the best secondary job for each character in Octopath Traveler 2 maximizes their potential and makes battles more strategic. Such ideals unlock every traveler's potential, although experimenting is inevitable.
The best job combination for your style of play will yield maximum fun. From maximum damage output to improving support capabilities or crafting perfectly well-balanced team builds, there is unlimited customizability in Octopath Traveler 2.
