The best x86 handheld gaming PCs of 2025 compare performance, screen quality, ergonomics, battery life, and overall fun factor.

x86 handheld game PCs have done really well in 2025. All around, performance has gone up, designs have gotten better, screens have gotten bigger and faster, and the battery life has finally reached a point where long game sessions feel reasonable.
This is only about x86 handheld game PCs, ARM-based Android devices are not considered. Any x86 small device will work with either Windows or SteamOS, so it doesn't matter which one it comes with.

This talks about eight standout devices, some of which were released earlier but are still good choices as we head into early 2026.
Only handheld game PCs with x86 processors are considered. Android handhelds based on ARM are not discussed here. Some of the gadgets that were shown here did not come out in 2025, but they still work great and are good choices for the future.
Most Powerful Handheld of 2025
People always ask how strong a mobile really is. The GPD Win 5 is the most powerful handheld of 2025 in terms of speed. It has two different versions.
The Ryzen Max 385 version has 8 cores, 16 threads, and a Radeon 8050S iGPU with 32 compute units. It already works better than Z1Extreme, Z2Extreme, and Intel-powered handhelds. The Max Plus 395 version has 16 cores and 32 threads, while the Radeon 8060S goes even further.
A great feature is the 80Wh removable battery. You can also buy extra batteries so you can swap them out wherever you are.
When it is brought in and used in docked mode at higher TDPs, it can even be used to play games at 1440p. There isn't anything else in the small space that can match this level of performance right now, whether you pick the Max 385 or the Plus 395.
Second Most Powerful Handheld
The second-most-powerful mobile is not a Max Plus or a Z2 Extreme, which is surprising. After extensive testing, it seems Z1Extreme and Z2Extreme devices trade blows depending on the game and wattage, with no clear winner. The MSI Claw 8 AI, on the other hand, takes second place.
Fueled by Intel Lunar Lake and Arc graphics, it performs better than the Z1Extreme and Z2Extreme handhelds in about 80% of the games tested on it.
Intel has made significant changes to its drivers over the last two years, which can improve compatibility. The MSI Claw 8 AI is a great high-end choice because it has a bigger screen and works really well overall.

Battery Life Champions
Battery size, the power used, and the games played all have a big impact on battery life. The ROG Ally X, MSI Claw A8, and MSI Claw 8 AI all have big 80Wh batteries.
The ROG Ally X has the best battery life in tests among these devices. It can last up to 1.5 hours longer than Z1Extreme-based devices with the same battery size.
The 7-inch display is the biggest problem. It's an IPS screen with a variable refresh rate and great picture quality at 120Hz, but it might feel small next to newer 8- and 8.8-inch displays.
Comfort and Ergonomics
For long game sessions, comfort is very important. The ROG Ally X is often considered the most comfortable mobile because its grips are like a controller's and look like an Xbox controller, so it's less likely your hands will get tired.
That said, we think the Legion Go S is the most comfortable option. It's big, with a curved back that fits easily into your hands, so it's very comfortable for long periods of use.
All versions have the same user-friendly layout, whether they're running SteamOS or Windows. If you want better speed than the Steam Deck but still want to be comfortable, the Z1Extreme model is a great choice.
Screen Quality Standouts
Any handheld game PC would not be the same without a screen. The Steam Deck OLED features a gorgeous 7.4-inch OLED screen with great color rendering and wide viewing angles. Still, the Lenovo Legion Go 2 is now at the top.
The Legion Go 2 has an 8.8-inch OLED screen that can run at up to 144Hz with variable frame rate and HDR support. The visuals are so great that it's hard to fully enjoy them without seeing them in person.
The Z2Extreme with this display is a performance screen-first powerhouse, even though it is bigger and doesn't have an 80Wh battery.
Design and Aesthetics
Design is an important emotional factor because you are always looking at the device while playing. The MSI Claw A8 is the clear winner in this group. We love the strong Gundam vibes its mecha-inspired design gives off, but it might not be for everyone.
The Claw A8 has a 120Hz, 8-inch IPS panel with a variable refresh rate and a bigger screen than the Ally line. It was shown before that there are multiple color versions, and this one is among the most unique-looking handhelds ever made, thanks to its overall design and the look of its back panel.

Pricing and Value
Pricing and Value The prices of mobile devices have become very high, and most of the best devices are far too expensive for most people. The Steam Deck is a clear exception.
The Steam Deck OLED is still the best deal. It has great speed, solid software support, and SteamOS right out of the box at a much more reasonable price.
More expensive gadgets, like the Legion Go 2, ROG Ally X, MSI Claw models, and GPD Win 5, can get really pricey, especially when they are configured with larger memory options like 128GB of RAM. The Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED are still the best for value.
Favorite Handheld of 2025
The Legion Go 2 would be the most popular mobile in 2025 if price didn't matter. It has a nice and comfortable design, removable gamepads, and great speed.
The amazing 8.8-inch 144Hz OLED screen really makes the experience. The overall package is great, even though its battery life isn't as good as the ROG Ally X's.
Ultimately, the mobile you enjoy right now is the best one of 2025. No matter if it's a Steam Deck, a Legion Go, a ROG Ally, an MSI Claw, or any other x86 mobile, the most important thing is to have fun with your games. Technology changes quickly, and something better is always on the way. Still, the best device is the one you enjoy using.
