Lighter, as a team support and damage dealer, stands true as a fascinating support. In my 15 hours of playthrough with Lighter, I have found that even though he is dependent on team composition and player skill, his unique mechanics and abilities make him quite a valuable asset for both Ice and Fire teams.
Lighter's true strength is support, despite his initial focus on stunning opponents. The way he can boost his allies' damage output, especially ice and fire users, is really unmatched. The moral bar, which increases with time and energy, was something I had to look out for since it had some major contributions.
When his gauge is full, Lighter can use his Moral Burst stage, which deals lethal hits while boosting team damage and diminishing enemy resistance. Lighter’s basic attack string is a five-hit combo, and you’re granted fire damage on his fourth and fifth attacks. Once I went to follow up on his basics, dodge counters, and specials, his combinations and gameplay got a bit complicated. His gameplay becomes tactical by maximizing moral burst and conducting timing changes.
Lighter’s EX-Special is a standout tool that constantly deals with damages and has utility. Although it requires energy, it can be reactivated at a lower cost to extend its effects, making it flexible and resource-efficient. His Y Special synergizes smoothly from his basic attacks, making tons of fruitful and satisfying to-watch attack combinations.
Lighter’s special lies in his primary mechanic, and it's impressive how versatile it can get in battle. After controlling his burst state, the moral mechanic assists the team in a lot of ways. Moral burst converts his fifth basic into critical damage along with debuff to weaken ice and fire resistance. I found boosting his moral surge usually pays off more than his ultimate.
Lighter is able to thrive in any situation if he is able to use his moral burst consistently, so you have to be strategic about it. I would strongly advise you to ensure that his moral bar is full before you bring him in. This is a neat little trick, as you’ll be able to maximize the buff and damage potential if you’re fully depleting the bar with empowered basic attacks.
His energy consumption and moral generation contribute to an energetic, switch-intense playstyle that rewards strong planning and execution. Lighter's signature weapon might be his greatest choice owing to its compatibility with his talents. All team buffs require a 270-impact threshold, and his or Qingyi's signature weapon is the most consistent alternative.
If you’re a Free-to-play player, alternatives are viable, but they fall short of achieving the maximum threshold. That does not make him less valuable as a team support. When fitting, this gear setup has ideal pairings with prioritized characteristics, including critical rate, critical damage, and abnormal proficiency.
Lighter has a team-oriented design and modifications that improve your gameplay and increase team ice and fire damage massively by up to 75%, as well as critical hit bonuses and resistance reduction. These qualities make him a really valuable asset for me, and especially for teams with strong ice and fire DPS units.
He is a hybrid support that can control crowds due to his huge stun length. However, outside of these team archetypes, he has limited utility, which may diminish his worth in accounts without strong ice or fire units.
Another issue that I had to deal with is that building Lighter effectively requires time and resources to maximize his potential, and not everyone might be interested in that. Moreover, his stats, mindscape, and team chemistry are mediocre. There are minor errors in in-game descriptions, which ended up confusing me in understanding some aspects. He is a support character who upgrades his teammates rather than himself, and this inconsistency ends up hindering team gameplay.
Players without additional ice or fire troops will be less interested in him due to his limited team choices. The need for his signature weapon or other high-damage alternatives for maximum buffs may also exclude free-to-play players. His dependence on energy and morality challenges players to properly organize their resources to avoid substandard performance.
However, Lighter shines when used properly and in the correct settings. In ice and fire teams, his buffs, debuffs, and stuns make him an indispensable asset. His versatility and ease of use may disappoint some, but players who put in the time and effort will reap the rewards. Lighter is Zenless Zone Zero's mastery of creating complex characters that require players to think tactically and give depth and satisfaction to those who understand him.
