Zenless Zone Zero Guide | Free-To-Play Pulling
Having trouble in getting decent pulls as a free-to-play player? Here's what you need to know about about getting good summons.

If you are here, you are surely looking for ways to increase your Polychrome earnings as a Free to Play (F2P) player. It's difficult to negotiate gacha systems without busting the wallet. But this is what the guide's for. You'll know the best strategies for optimizing your pulls and building a roster you will love.
Start with a Game Plan
F2P pulling has one simple, golden first rule: Always have a plan. While it would be tempting to chase every glittering new character, you need to consider two important issues: Does he or she bring added value to my team? Will they be enjoyable to use over time?
Remember, every pull is an investment in your account. As much as strength and flexibility, the character has to be fun to play. Balance up looks with utility, and if you're hyped about the lineup, you're going to stick more often.
Identify the Gacha System
It utilizes a pity system, but this, again, is a double-edged sword.
Pity for S-Rank: To obtain an S-rank character, it requires ninety pulls.
Mechanical 50–50: the mechanic exists wherein there's a 50% chance to pull the highlighted character of a limited banner. If you lose, then your next pity is guaranteed for the limited character.
Losing that 50/50 might sting, but take it as one of those times to prepare for what's next rather than sitting depressed. While the S rank character you got was not one that you wanted, you could always build around them, saving the guaranteed pull for one that you would.
Importance of Savings
Impulsive summoning is probably the biggest danger for F2P players. Scraping together the last bits of Polychrome for one pull, crossing your fingers, and hoping an S-rank miracle happens. But if we're being real, this does not happen all of the time. Thus, saving is absolutely necessary.
Pull it ninety times, and it will always give an S-rank, hence saving one from the headache of losing money. Avoid "trigger-hung" summons. It may be very tempting to call just because you have enough for one or two pulls. It is so much easier to save when Polychrome is plentiful, for it is a satisfaction in one way in a growing bank balance.
Know When Not to Flash Banners
In particular, for the short-term commercials, FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is strong. Of course, as a free-to-play gamer, you cannot afford to pull every banner, though. Occasionally, skipping is the better choice.
This is How You Decide
Roster construction: Consider your roster composition. Does this guy fill a void/need on your roster? Consider re-runs. Most of the limited characters will be found in future banners. If you can't afford them now, you'll get another shot. Early pity kicks in first: If your S-rank drops within the first 30 pulls, it may be wiser to continue on that banner. Otherwise, save up for the next one.
Make Around What You Already Own
If you've lost a 50/50, the world is not going to die here. Actually, this is quite a good opportunity for creativity. Stop whining about the character you didn't get and focus on building a team around the one you did. Even non-limited S-rank characters may turn out great with the proper support.
Pro-tip: A rank isn't all that bad. Sometimes, these underestimated parts of your team can be used to make some awesome synergies more easily built up or even outshine those S-ranks in some very particular situations.
Are W-Engines Worth It?
Now let's cover the W-engines: These are Guns, and although these can raise the numbers and talents of your characters, they are on small banners and are not always worth pursuing. Team depth should be prioritized more than the number of weapons. Weapons even aren't that visible. Apart from its cosmetic effects, W-Engines hardly affect your game-playing experience.
Avoid Falling Into the 'Building Pity' Trap
The worst thing F2P players do is call banners that they have little interest in "just to build pity." Sometimes, this backfires massively. You might accidentally pull the featured character and reset your pity counter, having spent money on someone you didn't want. Instead, save up for banners that truly excite you. The more disciplined you are, the more satisfying your pulls will be.
