Zenless Zone Zero Guide | How To Improve Damage

Feeling like your Damage isn't sufficient enough? Here's what you need to know to make the most out of the attacks you deal.

If you are feeling your characters in Zenless Zone Zero or ZZZ are not causing as much damage as they should, it's not just you. When I was first starting out, I felt like my agents were hitting with marshmallows. However, if you go deeper into the principles and procedures of how the game works, you will be able to increase overall damage output in instances.

Understanding Your Agents and W-Engines

Of all of the decisions you will make playing ZZZ, perhaps the single most pivotal will be whether to pull for a character's W-Engine or focus on other upgrades. I'll be the first to say that optimally, their settings involve W-Engines with limited banner agents, but as a F2P player, my experience playing this game has taught me it pays to skip their W Engines most of the time.

Rather than chase after W engines, either I use clones of preexisting S rank engines or replace them with strong standard banner engines. For example, my agent Zhu Yuan uses the Brimstone W-Engine, which increases her attack once she has performed basic and dash attacks. This isn't the default W Engine on her, but it synergizes with her kit so much and makes her such a reliable carrier.

Everything is in the composition of the team. Optimize the staffing composition. Look into the different roles that each of your characters could play when in a fight: attack, stun, support, defense, and anomaly. Determine how they will relate to each other. For example, having Zhu Yuan as the main damage dealer, and Qingyi to stun.

I counter with Zhu Yuan's lethal chain attacks due to the synergy caused by Qingyi's continuous stuns. Lastly, I've added Nicole to the team as she has very good crowd control support that could make multiple enemy hits easier.

Anytime you're building up a powerful team, ensure the different strengths of each agent complement other agents. Typically, this means every character in your squad will be given a role such as high damaging, de-buffing targets, or even having the ability to provide utility.

Level Up and Upgrade Your Agents

Although this may sound so seamless, leveling up doesn't relate only to your agents but also to your skills. After they have undergone the previous levels, focus more on their Mindscape Cinema evolution, which is basically constellations or breakthrough levels. There are cases where one single S-rank agent is outshined by an A-rank agent that has more duplicates.

Of course, formatting drive discs properly is also not something to neglect. These will be needed to create your agents' strengths. Taking your time to fine-tune your build is never a waste.

Before summoning, I advise you to evaluate whether the banner fits my goals. The temptation to chase every limited-character banner that might come is huge, but it is highly not feasible for a free player.

Sometimes, it is actually better that I pull another duplicate of the already owned A-rank agent since it upgrades their Mindscape Cinema. Losing a 50/50 pull is never fun, but it's an opportunity to sit down and reassess. Suppose I'm going for Jane Doe and then pull out Grace; I'd just stop and take a look at my situation and then see if it's worth it to keep pulling for Jane Doe or actually fit Grace into my lineup.

Utilize What You Already Have

You will have quite a number of A-rank agent duplicates early in the game, and you should not belittle their worth. Properly Mindset Cinema-leveled A-ranks can sometimes perform better than an un-optimized S-rank. I have replaced many S-ranks with A-ranks that have better synergy and duplication advantages. I can say this does make a big difference in endgame material such as Shiyu Defense, where efficiency is normally key.

When regrouping my teams, I consider the characters and resources I'll need. That means making decisions about which new banners to save for, which agents to invest in, and which preexisting agents to power up. To me, working out a solid roster is more interesting than chasing every single limited banner that's out.

Set your eyes on the structure of your squad, use alternatives of W-Engines ingeniously, and construct your agent with care. Note your summons and remember to play in a manner that best suits you. These will then help a free-to-play gamer like myself to make the most of our accounts without having to spend too much, if at all.
