The 10 best armor sets in Black Myth: Wukong ranked from worst to best.

Game Guide by Nine_toes on  Aug 25, 2024

There is much to discover in this new action RPG that is seemingly breaking and topping every chart in gaming, Black Myth: Wukong. With that, there is a lot of armor to choose from. Some of these have secret mechanics and even hidden upgrades that can grant you a huge buff. All of the armor sets in this list will have some significant buff, look cool, or both, and are ranked from worst to best. You will also find out how to obtain each of these sets on this list.

10. Non-Pure Armor Set

This is one of the most aesthetically pleasing armor sets, but unfortunately, it is not the strongest. You can get it by defeating Zhu Bajie in Chapter 4. It’s a unique mechanic where, whenever you de-transform, either from a spell or spirit transformation, your character is physically stained by mud. The mud stains grant you a damage reduction buff and the four-set bonus gets you an increased might recovery rate. The issue with this set is that the stains don’t last very long, and your movement speed becomes significantly slower when you are stained—your dodges are slowed by this, too. I wish the armor set provided more for the debuff it gives you, given how mobile the gameplay of Wukong is, but it is still a cool-looking armor set with a neat (or rather messy) mechanic. On the plus side, you get a slight bonus on the Greaves, which makes all actions cost no stamina when de-transforming back or activating Spirit skills.

9. Golden Armor Set

The Golden Armor set is much better than the Non-Pure set because it buffs your spirits a lot more. The two-set bonus gives you a large attack buff whenever you use a spirit skill or vessel, and this even works on your healing charges. The four-set bonus causes critical hits and grants you some Qi upon defeating enemies, which adds some sustain to your spirit casts. You also gain a ton of focus from successful hits from spirit skills. If you pair this with a good summon like Frost Bat, this set can ride you very far into the game.

8. Ochre Armor Set

The Ochre Armor set has a unique mythical bonus that only unlocks when you max it out. It is a three-piece set, and its only bonus is that it creates a decoy when you do a charged heavy attack, and they are cloaked in Yellow Wind. This grants them a good amount of damage reduction. The arm guard buffs critical hit chance for a few seconds when you consume a focus point, and the mythical bonus upgrade makes you spawn a clone when you unleash a four-focus point heavy attack. This can make for a very viable shadow clone build, especially if you go with the full skill tree and get volition, which allows them to cast many of your spells, including immobilize. However, the build has limitations, including high mana cost, vulnerability to AOE attacks, and occasional issues with clones not attacking when the boss remains stationary.

7. Centipede Armor Set

The Centipede Armor Set lets you play a very fun build. You can craft this set when you reach the Woods of Amber Ashen Pass 1 Shrine, and the set bonus makes you deal a lot more damage when you are poisoned, as well as significantly reducing how much continuous damage you take while poisoned. You can combine this with the Spider Celestial Staff that you can get from the same map and the Deathstinger soak, which lets you keep this buff indefinite. Four combo-heavy attacks from this staff cause poison build, which adds up. You can also use the Centipede staff alternative, which requires poisoning the target but provides better healing. Either option works well, especially if you pair it with the Violet Hail transformation for even more poison.

6. Bronze Monkey Armor Set

The Bronze Monkey Armor set is a well-rounded set you can craft after defeating Elder Jinchi in Chapter 1. Although it lacks unique mythical upgrades or special effects, its two-piece and four-piece bonuses make it a solid choice when paired with the immobilize spell. The two-piece bonus deals extra damage when you crash an immobilized target, while the four-piece bonus drastically reduces the cooldown for immobilization when crashing it. The arm guard also allows light attacks following Evanescence to trigger finishers of light attack combos. You need to ensure you have the damage output to trigger the crash effect, so it is recommended to do heavy combos.

5. The Galeguard Armor Set

The Galeguard Armor set is a craftable set that rewards precise play with perfect dodges. Obtained after defeating the Stone Vanguard boss in Chapter 2, this set grants you considerable focus on perfect dodges with its two-piece bonus, while the four-piece bonus slightly reduces cooldowns for all spells. The set’s mythical bonus grants you mana recovery when you successfully pull off three consecutive perfect dodges in a short time. This bonus improves your perfect dodging skill, so it is a good way to make yourself dodge more if you are interested in that playstyle.

4. Iron-Tough Armor Set

The Iron-Tough Armor set is an excellent option for players who master the Rock Solid deflection. You can get this set by defeating Yin Tiger at the Zodiac Village, and this set is your go-to choice if you enjoy the Rock Solid deflection. The two-piece bonus massively buffs the focus you gain from the Nick of Time effect. In contrast, the four-piece bonus significantly reduces the cooldown on Rock Solid deflections after a successful deflection. The gauntlet gives you a substantial damage boost for the next attack following a successful Rock Solid deflection, which synergizes well with the set’s other bonuses. With this armor, you can maintain a near-constant 50% cooldown reduction on Rock Solid deflections, which lets you use it a lot more in combat. Its defense stats are solid, and the set’s ability to enhance one of the best abilities in the game makes it a top-tier choice.

3. Bull-King Armor Set

The Bull-King Armor set is a high-defense set obtained from the Bishui Secret Cave in Chapter 5. Its two-piece bonus grants moderate defense temporarily after taking damage, while the four-piece bonus disables perfect dodges but grants tenacity when health is below half. The mask further boosts focus when you take damage, especially when staggered. This set is almost uninterruptable, which allows you to keep attacking or healing while tanking boss attacks. It has the highest defense of all armors in the game, with pieces offering 20-50% more defense than other sets and gaining another 100 defense as you take hits. However, this armor is best suited for New Game Plus, as you can’t get all its pieces to reach endgame, and it requires a low health state to fully activate its four-piece bonus.

2. Pilgrims Armor Set

Black Myth: Wukong, 10 Best Armor Sets, List, Screenshots, NoobFeed The Pilgrim's armor set is one of the strongest sets in the whole game, but it, unfortunately, uses a ton of resources to upgrade this pretty much from green quality all the way to mythic, where it truly starts to shine. But even though it costs quite a bit, you gain this from level one, and it comes with some of the best bonuses in the game, so you can just stick to this one from the start of the game all the way into New Game Plus. Its two-set bonus is going to increase your sprint speed. Meanwhile, the four-set bonus will increase your attack by 10% each second during sprinting, stacking up to 10 times. So it's a free 100% bonus attack by just running, but once you upgrade this to mythical quality, it gains a third and final buff, which makes sprinting gain a small amount of focus per second. So, as you sprint, you gain that extra focus per second and damage. This means that every time you run into combat, you will always be ready with three points or at least a couple of points and bonus damage. That is a huge amount of free damage and a large ceiling.

1. Heavens Equal Armor Set

Black Myth: Wukong, 10 Best Armor Sets, List, Screenshots, NoobFeed
After finishing the game, the Heavens Equal armor set is given to you, or at least entering the final chapter and defeating the five bosses that drop each piece. The Heavens Equal set has no equal in the game, which is fitting. It offers great bonuses—the three-set bonus increases your critical hit chance when casting spells, and critical hits slightly reduce all spell cooldowns. The fifth set bonus, the Jingubang Staff, has the highest attack rating in the game and an OP effect where the gauge of the fourth focus point no longer depletes over time. It also boosts critical hit chance, mana, stamina, and HP, making it a well-rounded set with excellent defense. The biggest advantage is convenience—you don’t need to craft or upgrade anything. Once you get it, you are all set.
