Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem has now fully launched and players are encountering the Steam Authentication Failed error when attempting to get into the game's Online mode. Like other online titles before it, Wolcen's launch wasn't the smoothest, but why does the Steam Authentication Failed error occur? We're here to explain.
Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem's Steam Authentication Failed error occurs due to the strain placed on the servers on launch day. Simply put, the title's servers are having trouble dealing with the sheer amount of players attempting to go online.
This, naturally, means that there's no real fix for the Steam Authentication Failed error that Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem players can attempt to use. There are, however, solutions. We managed to get into online mode by repeatedly attempting to connect, however, we then bumped into another error when creating a new game.
The other way to play Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem in spite of the Steam Authentication Failed error is to choose its Offline mode. Do keep in mind that, from what we can tell, Online and Offline mode have separate characters so, when the server issues get solved, you'll have to start from scratch if you want to go Online.
Thankfully, developer Wolcen Studio is aware of the Wolcen: Lords of Mayhem Steam Authentication Failed error and is actively working to solve it so that players can hop into Online mode without issues.
Status update: we're still working on the server issues and we are currently in the process of increasing the amount of information processed on the database per second. We still have no ETA to provide for the moment but we'll keep you updated.
