Not sure where the idea came from, but McDonald's gave an official approval on making a game for an old generation console.

McDonald's mascots are always in presence whenever kids are involved. There are kid meals in McDonald's for kids to enjoy of course, but there are also the video games McDonald's released back in the day, when getting your game on Mega Drive or Super Nintendo was a hip thing to do. As expected, games and McDonald's aren’t that far away from each other. One particular video game incident with McDonald's was the missing employee training card for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. This video game basically showed how to treat customers and deal with the kitchen if you start working at McDonald's, and it was considered as a missing media because of its rarity.

Now, one of the mascots in the crew was Grimace, the purple monster that is ever so hungry for the burgers. It is odd to think it has been 52 years since the Grimace’s addition to the crew, and in order to celebrate it, McDonald's released an exquisite game for Grimace’s birthday, fittingly named "Grimace's Birthday".

This game is odder than usual, as if it was the 2000s, we could have seen a basic flash game made for the purple guy. However, it seems like whoever was tasked with the project, took it a bit further and created a game for Nintendo GameBoy Color instead. As you remember, the GameBoy Color was a handheld console released 25 years ago, while this is unconventional by today’s standards,, the people behind the project absolutely knew what they were doing. Creators, Krool Games developed the game through an emulator and made it so that people can use certain adapters to get the game on their actual GameBoy Colors. If you are curious, you can also check the game on Krool Games’ website or play it through an emulator by downloading the game from Internet Archive as well.

We assume the motivation for such a project was, whoever grew up with Grimace is very much nostalgic of their childhood, and obviously their childhood is tied to certain objects like their favorite gaming console. Since people grew up with those sorts of backgrounds, it would be a great gesture if they were to receive nice and subtle games for their childhood console. McDonald's could have gone for the easy solution of changing the theme of McDonalds for a week, but this idea of the project is quite genuine with the intent of paying respect to McDonalds’ heritage, as well as the people who grew up with the mascot.
