The most anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds finally released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on February 28, but the game's Steam user reviews are far worse than those of its PlayStation and Xbox counterparts, mainly because of seemingly endemic performance issues plaguing the PC version of the action RPG. The game received a new patch, Update 1.000.03.00, for the PlayStation 5 version on Sunday, March 2, 2025, but PC players still seem to be having issues with the game.

Issues with Monster Hunter Wilds' console support surfaced soon after its release on February 28, 2025, and this patch aims to fix them. Since the developers have mentioned their intention to work on more general solutions, updates that address further issues may be forthcoming for all platforms. Recently, Capcom posted a statement about the high number of players reporting Monster Hunter Wilds' PC performance issues, with some suggestions for how to improve.

Capcom's comments were received mixed by the players of Monster Hunter Wilds, partly because the developer has not issued a statement addressing what some people believe is the cause of their subpar experience. A few hours after the game's launch, Capcom shared a response to the constant stream of complaints about performance problems from PC players.

The MHStatusUpdates official X account directed Monster Hunter Wilds Steam players who were experiencing suboptimal performance to update their graphics drivers, turn off the game's Windows compatibility mode, and then tweak their graphics settings, among other procedures. Even as Capcom also released a support page describing its advice, its statement itself still elicited mixed online reactions. Some fans responded to the February 28 post by pointing fingers at the company for toeing the line on what they believe is really the issue at hand: less-than-stellar PC optimization.

Some vocal fans are especially irate that Capcom has not yet indicated any steps to further optimize the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds. They argue that the company's offering troubleshooting advice in the event of performance issues is tantamount to evading responsibility for what they see as obvious development shortcomings. The situation is already generating comparisons to Dragon's Dogma 2's PC performance issues, which Capcom eventually alleviated but never completely fixed.

Moreover, in addition to refreshing GPU drivers and fixing performance issues, PC users are advised to update their Windows operating system and DirectX versions and include the game's installation directory in their antivirus whitelists. Capcom also recommends giving Steam administrator rights and verifying the integrity of the game files using Valve's platform.

Even after some disappointment among fans, Monster Hunter Wilds has already set the series' biggest-ever PC launch to date, with over 1.38 million concurrent Steam players on February 28. Nevertheless, its over 31,000 Steam user reviews are graded as "Mixed" solely due to the game's performance on the PC. Since Capcom already addressed these issues, another patch for the PC will likely be released soon.
