Gaming as a whole has a major preservation issue; regularly, games are just forever lost to times and only get mentioned in passing in an obscure forum thread. Some titles get lucky and receive HD remasters or remakes, but for many, a port is well appreciated. Lucky for fans of horror, a new rumor suggests that Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare could be coming to PlayStation Plus Premium. As exciting as that sounds, there seems to be more to this rumor.

During the early 2000’s, the survival horror genre was going through a truly massive boom, thanks to the likes of Resident Evil, Parasite Eve and of course, Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare. This interesting horror title was released on the Dreamcast and PS1 and would later be ported to PlayStation 2, and even the Game Boy Color. The game is the fourth entry into the Alone in The Dark horror game franchise and follows our two protagonists, Aline Cedric, and Edward Carney; they must investigate the strange disappearance of a professor and his daughter on the ominously named Shadow Island.

Rumors of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare coming to PlayStation Plus Premium first surfaced after the UK PlayStation account on Twitter announced that PlayStation Plus Premium would be launching on 24 January 2024. The post included Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare as one of the titles coming out, but for some reason, the post was soon after deleted. As things go on the internet, a user by the name TURBo_THUNDER collected evidence of the post and shared it in a post on Reddit. Sadly, no screenshots of the tweet existed, and many other users did recall seeing the horror title mentioned in the tweet.

This wasn't helped by the fact this wasn't the first time Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare was mentioned by an official PlayStation outlet, as the official PlayStation Access YouTube account showcased the game in a recent video, which was also removed after the tweet was deleted. Whether this was an accident and the game isn't actually coming to the platform, or something more serious is yet to be seen, we can only hope.
