Valve updated their 'Steam and Game Stats' this morning, January 2, at 9:26 AM. The most current stats have Valve revealing users' bandwidth used, the amount of players logged in simultaneously at once and the top 100 most-played games.
Looking at the current top ten most-played games is well, really no surprise, and it's safe to say that this list didn't vary much when the clock struck midnight on the first day of 2015. Topping the list at number one is Dota 2, peaking at 874,998 players, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 coming in at second and third with drastically lower numbers.
However blasé the top ten list is, the top 100 most-played games tells a different story. Simulators and some lesser known shooters made the list, with Euro Truck Simulator 2 taking the number sixteen spot and Insurgency squeezing its way in at number 89. Even some free to play games fell within the list with Unturned finding itself the 25th most played game at the start of 2015.
To our delight, This War of Mine was included in the top 100. A strong contender for our 2014 game of the year, 11 bit studios' survival war game, "seen from an entirely different angle," popped in at 74 on the list, with close to 5,000 steam users playing at once today.
As with any typical day on Steam, the last 48 hours shows a fluctuation in the amount of users running Steam. As the new year approached, approximately five million users were logged into Valve's platform. This number continued to increase throughout the first day of 2015, and at its peak, nearly 8.5 million users were running Steam.
Steam download bandwidth used is not so interesting to many of us, however, if you're one of those that delights in this information, you can find it, along with the entire list of the top games played on Steam's website.
If you weren't too inebriated to steady a mouse or too hungover to stare at your monitor, what games did you ring in 2015 with?
