Don't Rule Out Marvel's Spider-Man 2 Story DLC, Yet

What Sony intends to unveil at their 30th-anniversary celebration is at the center of some crazy guesswork.

The latest PlayStation commercial, "Play Has no Limits", has a train station scenario where we spotted a rather intriguing Easter egg referring to a specific date—December 3, 2024. The 30th anniversary of PlayStation, a landmark achievement for the industry, falls on this very Tuesday. In December 2019, Sony celebrated their 25th anniversary as a company and announced that Ghost of Tsushima would be making an appearance at the Game Awards as part of the celebration. This was the last significant anniversary of PlayStation.

With PlayStation's 30th anniversary approaching in a matter of weeks, fans are anxiously anticipating Sony's announcement regarding the console's future in 2025. While announcing the PS5 Pro pre-order launch details in September 2024 State of Play, Sony also unveiled Ghost of Yōtei, the next masterpiece in the Soccer Punch series, during the same event. However, there was massive criticism when Insomniac shelved plans for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 story DLC to concentrate on Marvel's Wolverine.

But Marvel's Spider-Man 2 fans still don't want to give up on the hopes for a story DLC. All of this led up to the announcement on May 30 of a PlayStation showcase before the year ends. Rumors about projects from Bend Studio, Naughty Dog, and Horizon developer Guerrilla kept going, and we were still waiting for the Ghost of Yōtei disclosure, Wolverine's reveal, and any announcement regarding reported collaborations.

It was also reported that Sony was set to drop two big first-party AAA games in 2025. The report stressed that these games will be from studios controlled by Sony, not from partner partnerships like Stellar Blade, but from Sony itself like Santa Monica Studio or Insomniac Games. In their most recent earnings report, PlayStation appeared to reinforce their intentions to release a big PlayStation exclusive annually beginning in 2025, lending weight to this theory.

Ghost of Yōtei, Death Stranding 2, Marathon, and Marvel's Wolverine are all confirmed for next year, and now Marvel's Wolverine is being considered as well. There have been rumblings about PlayStation preparing for a Marvel's Wolverine showcase, but all we have to go on is the December 6 release of Marvel Rivals. It's obvious Marvel's Wolverine is still in the early stages, and we would anticipate news soon—just not on this occasion. Rather than Insomniac Games postponing GTA 6 release, sources suggest that they are still aiming for a Holiday 2025. Along with this, Insomniac has reportedly been developing a spin-off game for Venom instead of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 story DLC.

But we all know Sony. They know best how to keep the fans happy. They took down Concord because the fans weren't pleased even after spending over 150 million dollars on the game, and they also returned the money everyone paid for the game. So, a lot of people are making crazy assumptions about what Sony will unveil in celebration of their PlayStation 30th anniversary. So you never know if they will surprise the fans with the news that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 story is DLC since Insomniac Games is already upgrading Marvel's Spider-Man 2 for PS5 Pro. And Sony knows very well that it's going to please the fans the most.

Although we all know it's highly unlikely, some people are eagerly anticipating news of a Bloodborne remaster. Santa Monica Studio and Nixxes Software are currently working on a God of War Greek Saga remake, confirming a claim that Sony is preparing to announce remasters for the original God of War trilogy in October. While Spider-Man 2 story DLC surprise from Sony is still a long shot, fans aren't ready to write off Marvel news—especially Venom—just yet.
