Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse by Steamroller Studios started their Kickstarter campaign to raise $65,000 to fund their unique looking game. The young wooden protagonist has no strings to hold him down while he goes around, invents new weapons, and builds defenses to fight against the wooden zombie horde.

Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse,Kickstarter

It’s an action adventure survival game where you play as a teenaged “woodling” named Lathe who is accompanied by a stone giant named Roguard in order to prevent the Deadwood from spreading their curse all throughout Knottington, hence the title. Wood puns aside, the game is designed with a top down view, similar to classic Zelda games like Link To the Past, with the twist of a game like Don’t Starve giving you a survival aspect to your journey.

According to the Kickstarter and the trailer for the game, Lathe is protected by Roguard during the day, which is when he can gather resources for the upcoming nightmarish night time where Roguard falls asleep and he must protect him. The game will feature a crafting system, allowing the player to create barriers, weapons, traps and other such items for the oncoming nighttime assault. Deadwood's overall theme seems to focus on cooperating with your stone partner and learning the meaning of friendship amidst the hordes of the wooden undead coming for your sap.

The campaign started March 4 2015 and the game is up to $8,729 which is only a small portion of what this quirky looking game needs to become fully funded. The first 250 $10 backers will get the early bird special, which means they get a digital copy of the game, which would cost 15 dollars upon release. The highest tier of $ 10,000 promises an all-expense paid trip to Eustis Florida – where the studio is located – for a wrap up party upon the games completion.

Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse will be available on PC, Mac and Linux with more to come according to the Kickstarter. It also has a Steam Greenlight page. We will update you as the story develops.
