You are getting a pretty substantial update in Battlefield 6 as the final major patch of Season 2 rolls out on April 14 under the name Hunter and Prey, officially labeled as update 1.2.3.0. This is not something you can skip, since it is a mandatory download, and once it is live, you are stepping into a version of the game that feels noticeably more refined across the board.

The rollout itself is structured so that you can download the update starting at 9:00 UTC, while the full content goes live at 12:00 UTC. Once everything unlocks, you are not just seeing new additions but also a long list of improvements touching gameplay, progression, UI, audio, and even backend systems like networking and AI.

You are already somewhat familiar with the headline additions if you have been following the roadmap. The Hunter and Prey update brings in Operation Augur as a limited-time mode, blending Contaminated and Hagen Base into a single operation-style experience. You are also getting a new LTV vehicle, a machete as a fresh weapon option, and a new battle pass bonus path that ties a lot of this content together.

On top of that, there is a new RedSec training path called the hazmat breacher for the assault class.

When you use it, you are essentially stepping into a role designed for aggressive entry play. It uses a modified breacher dart launcher that fires a concentrated version of VL7 smoke, letting you weaken enemies who are holding positions while protecting yourself with a built-in mask that reduces negative effects. The idea is to make you more effective when pushing into contested areas without getting shut down instantly.

Where things start to feel different moment to moment is in progression. You are no longer relying as heavily on kills and assists to move forward. Weapon XP and vehicle XP now also build through active use, which means you are rewarded simply for playing your role. If you are repairing, supporting, or just staying active with your gear, the game now recognizes that. XP rates have also been increased across multiplayer, battle royale, and gauntlet, and battle royale specifically now gives you more points for kills and damage assists.

The battle royale and gauntlet modes themselves have seen broader adjustments. Loot flow has been reworked, strike packages have been tweaked, and armor plate availability has been balanced differently, so you are likely to notice changes in how matches progress and how often you are able to stay in the fight.

Challenge tracking and objective progression have also been revisited, so things are not just working more reliably but also making more sense as you complete them.

Combat feedback is another area where you will immediately feel improvements in Battlefield 6. Hit audio is clearer, incoming damage is easier to read, and projectile behavior is more consistent. Visual tracers now line up better with actual damage, which helps you understand what is happening in gunfights instead of second-guessing the system.

Weapons and gadgets have gone through a broad polish pass. Defibrillators and the AJ3 med pen have both been reworked, and attachments, animations, and unlock presentation have all been improved. At the same time, UI and HUD elements have been updated across menus, loadouts, challenges, and end-of-round screens, making everything easier to read and navigate without drastically changing how it looks.

When you dig into gameplay adjustments, you start seeing a lot of smaller fixes that collectively smooth things out. Certain stats now display correctly, assignment completion screens are clearer, and dog tag unlock requirements are easier to understand. Movement has also been tweaked, with better alignment on stairs and uneven terrain, fewer issues with clipping, and improved behavior when exiting vehicles or interacting with ladders.

There are also subtle restrictions now in place, like lasers and flashlights entering a short cooldown if you try to spam them.

Ping voiceover callouts have a slight delay, and soldier acceleration curves have been adjusted to better support 30 Hz gameplay. None of these changes are dramatic on their own, but together they make movement and interaction feel more stable.

Networking and hit registration updates are where a lot of technical improvements show up. You now get clearer network warning icons with actual values displayed, including packet loss and latency information. Grenades behave more reliably if you are killed mid-throw, hit feedback audio triggers faster, and bandwidth usage has been optimized so more weapon data can be sent in a single update. Trade kill distance has also been reduced from 50 meters to 30 meters, cutting down on frustrating mid-range situations where damage does not register as expected.

Vehicle updates include the addition of the LTV, along with fixes for mine triggers, camera transitions, and spawn behavior. Certain systems, like automated anti-air defenses, have been improved to prevent spawn camping or vehicle theft. Handling adjustments on vehicles like the RHIB and weapon tuning on the scout helicopter are also part of the package.

Gadgets have received their share of changes as well.

Haptic feedback works more reliably with gas masks and night vision, drone self-destruct sounds are easier to hear, and several audio and animation issues have been fixed. Scoring for vehicle hits has been updated so critical hits and standard hits are no longer treated the same.

The defibrillator rework stands out as one of the more meaningful gameplay changes. You now have a charge-based system with three charges that regenerate over time. Revives scale depending on how long you charge, starting at 50 percent health and reaching full health at maximum charge. Fully charged defibs can also deal 100 damage to enemies again, bringing back the ability to eliminate someone with a single shock. The system slows down rapid revives a little, which makes people use them more carefully while still letting them make clutch plays.

Changes to weapons include adding a machete and lowering the prices of some types of ammo. Some weapons have had their bugs fixed, their animations fixed, and their optics fixed. Problems like throwing grenades too late or having the wrong recoil behavior have been fixed, which makes handling weapons feel more consistent overall.

Changes to progression go beyond XP rates.

Many challenges that were previously tracked incorrectly have been fixed, covering everything from explosive damage to weapon-specific objectives. You are now seeing more accurate tracking across multiplayer and battle royale in Battlefield 6, and tasks that once felt unreliable should now complete as intended.

Updates to the UI and HUD fix a lot of small problems, like wrong text and menus that don't match up. You might not notice every single fix, but the overall experience gets better and less distracting. Settings have also been improved. For example, controllers now have a dead zone visualization tool, and there are fixes for input values, graphics displays, and menu navigation.

Portal mode has been updated with better bot behavior, easier server joining, and fixes for spawning systems and combat areas. Bots now move around maps better, interact with goals better, and use vehicles better. These changes also affect AI improvements in general, where bots are now better at handling movement and combat situations.

Audio updates make the game more enjoyable from moment to moment.

Vehicles are less likely to sneak up on you, sounds from the environment are more consistent, and weapon sounds have been improved. The sounds and voice lines in the menus have also been improved, which makes the whole audio design feel more complete.

RedSec gets its own updates, which include better ways to share loot, strike packages, and destructibility. Armor plates are easier to get to, some interactions are smoother, and map features like safes and containers have been changed to make them easier to use. Battle royale and gauntlet progression has also been changed to better reflect the time spent, with more rewards for kills and assists.

The Hunter and Prey update feels less like a simple content drop and more like a full sweep of the whole game by the time you finish everything. Not only do you get new modes and weapons, but you also get a better version of Battlefield 6 that runs more smoothly, keeps track of your progress more fairly, and makes it easier to understand how to play.
