Publisher Capcom is revamping the Street Fighter V online scene. In a recent announcement, the company touted a list of changes to its Capcom Fighters Network (CFN) online experience. And for many fans of the paragon fighting game, that “fighting experience” has been less than stellar. Not one to shy away from its vocal community, Capcom briefly acknowledged their lacking in a recent blog post, stating:

“We understand that Street Fighter V’s server performance has been a less than optimal experience for many of our players.”

The same post also lists all the current changes planned for the online system in Street Fighter V. updates include a better rage quit penalty, where players leaving a game before taking a loss will be put up in matches with people who do similar deeds. Training mode can now also save settings, matchmaking should go faster and avoid repeat matches, but also a bunch more optimization.

To test the new CFN, Capcom will hold a free week on Steam for people, both old and new, to get their hands on some Beta version of Street Fighter V. Any progress, however, will be deleted after the Beta is over. This includes fight money, replays and player data. The CFN PC Beta will take place between March 28 and April 3, 2017.

Street Fighter V has been growing steadily ever since its rather barren release. It’s definitely not in the glorious state it should be yet, but we would argue that now is a pretty good time to jump in and at least test the waters. Along with the CFN changes, the Beta will also load up the second balance patch for Season 2. Without getting too technical, Capcom is working on minimizing as many cheap tricks as possible, while also trying to keep the game fun to play. For example, “shoryuken” attacks being invincible have been a topic of conversation since the beginning. Rather than removing the invincibility altogether, the new patch will add invincibility according to how fierce the attack is, trading off commitment to a move with the reward of a potential hit. Each character individually received a bunch of alterations as well.

If you’re looking to participate to the CFN Beta of Street Fighter V for the first time, Ryu is always a good first character to try out. Other characters easier to pick up include the powerful Zangief; a strong, defensive Guile or the versatile bully tactics of Birdie. Don’t be swayed by alluring characters like Ken or Chun-Li; they are surprisingly tricky to master.

Good luck out there in the Street Fighter V CFN realms.
