Cyberpunk 2077 Sells 13 Million Copies Despite Problematic Release

Cyberpunk 2077 sells big

Cyberpunk 2077's launch has gone down as one of the worst game releases of all time. Similar to titles like Final Fantasy 14, Fallout 76, and even Battlefield 4 the game's performance problems have been all over the internet. This has forced Sony to pull the game from their digital store and offer full refunds, Microsoft offering full refunds for digital purchases, and even retailers extending refunds. However, despite this, the game has sold over 13 million copies.

CD Projekt Red says that it has sold 13 million copies of Cyberpunk through digital and physical distribution channels as of December 20.

This number factors in refunds processed by this point at both retail / digital.

According to CD Projekt, over 13 million copies have been purchased through digital and physical editions despite the mass refunds. This largely due to the game's 8 million pre-orders.

Despite this massive success Cyberpunk 2077 still has a long way to go. There are class action lawsuits being talked about, investors extremely unhappy with the game's performance, and more news coverage about executive's lying about the game's performance on last-generation systems prior to launch. Along with developers coming out and elaborating on the harsh conditions and crunch periods reported on prior to Cyberpunk 2077's release.

Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Stadia, and PC.
