After the release of the remastered version of Days Gone, players can once again enter the post-apocalyptic world that captivated them in 2019. With better graphics and easier gameplay on PS5 and PS5 Pro, this updated release has started a passionate conversation across the gaming community: Where is Days Gone 2?

Despite a rocky launch, Days Gone managed to build a loyal fanbase and achieve impressive sales numbers that rivaled or even surpassed those of PlayStation juggernauts like Horizon Zero Dawn. Unlike its first-party competitors, Days Gone has only been released once. There is no sequel in the works, which continues to puzzle both fans and people who follow the business.

However, the stars might finally align for a Days Gone sequel.

The biggest clue that the timing might finally be right for Days Gone 2 lies in recent developments at Bend Studio. In 2021, Sony confirmed that Bend was working on a new IP. As more information emerged, it became clear the project was a live service title, an announcement that disappointed many longtime Days Gone fans. The backlash was strong; players questioned why the studio would pivot away from the single-player narrative that brought them success in the first place.

Fast forward to early 2025, and the news broke that Bend Studio's live service project had been canceled, reportedly alongside another scrapped live service game from Bluepoint Games. With years of development effort now shelved, Bend Studio finds itself at a creative crossroads. Internally, the team is likely regrouping, brainstorming new pitches, and preparing to approach Sony with their next idea. And there's one concept that seems impossible to ignore: Days Gone 2.

There's mounting evidence that Sony and Bend Studio may finally be warming up to the idea of turning Days Gone into a full-fledged franchise. The remaster is one part of that equation, but there's more.

In August 2022, Deadline reported that a Days Gone movie was in development. PlayStation Productions was attached, with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Sheldon Turner penning the script. The film was described as a "love ballad to motorcycle movies," with Deacon St. John's iconic bike serving as the protagonist's "steel horse" in this modern-day western. While updates have been sparse since the initial announcement, the project has not been officially canceled, and its high-profile talent suggests that Sony still sees value in the Days Gone brand.

It raises an important question: why would Sony invest in a Days Gone film adaptation and a remaster yet continue to ignore a sequel? The renewed marketing attention, fan demand, and expanding multimedia footprint suggest a larger strategy could be forming behind the scenes.

For years, fans believed Sony had outright rejected a pitch for Days Gone 2 due to lukewarm reviews. It's true the game launched with technical issues, and critics were divided—some gave it middling scores, citing bugs and pacing problems, while others praised its emotional depth, open world, and compelling protagonist. However, that narrative doesn't tell the full story.

In reality, a sequel was never officially pitched to Sony. According to inside reports from Bend Studio, there was a lot of chaos after Days Gone came out. It is said that Jeff Ross and John Garvin, who were in charge of making the game, quit because they didn't agree on the artistic direction. Because they weren't there, Bend switched its attention to a new IP and scrapped all plans for a sequel altogether.

This behind-the-scenes shakeup, rather than a direct rejection from Sony, seems to be the real reason why Days Gone 2 never materialized.

With the failed live service project in the rearview and fan interest at an all-time high, Bend Studio faces a rare second chance. The timing is almost poetic: A remaster drawing players back in, a movie in development, and an open slot in the studio's future pipeline. It's difficult to ignore just how aligned the circumstances are for a sequel to finally take shape.

Of course, there are lingering questions. What would a possible sequel look like without Garvin and Ross? Would the original idea stay the same? Could the studio recapture the emotional nuance and world-building that made Days Gone special in the first place? There's always the risk that a follow-up might not live up to fan expectations, especially without the original leadership at the helm.

Yet even with these uncertainties, fans seem willing to take that risk.  The desire for more Days Gone is clear, and more and more people think that Sony Bend should capitalize on that excitement instead of switching to something new. It doesn't matter if it's a spiritual follow-up to Deacon's story or a continuation of his journey in the same world; people are hungry for it more than ever.

Days Gone may not have launched with the same polish or acclaim as The Last of Us or Ghost of Tsushima, but it earned something just as valuable. Players liked its dark world, touching story, and unique way of showing how to survive in a world gone mad. The game has become better known over time, and many people say it's one of the PS4 generation's most underrated titles.

Other PlayStation hits have gone on to receive sequels, TV shows, and expanded universes. Meanwhile, Days Gone remains a standalone tale despite showing it had the legs to be much more. With Bend Studio looking to regroup and Sony reassessing its live service-heavy roadmap following multiple cancellations, a single-player sequel might not just be the safe bet; it might be the right one.

Now, as momentum builds and eyes turn toward what's next, it feels like the perfect time for Sony to give Days Gone 2 the green light. Fans have waited long enough. Could this be the moment that changes everything?
