The whispers about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are getting louder, and this time they're going around places that seemed out of reach at first. A recent report and talk in the industry say that Square Enix is looking into releasing games on platforms other than PlayStation 5.

Now everyone is talking about Xbox Series devices and Nintendo's next hardware, which is often called Switch 2. Even though nothing has been officially said, the timing of these rumors doesn't seem like it was a mistake.

The story says that Square Enix and Nintendo are working together to make sure that Final Fantasy VII Rebirth comes out in the summer on the new Nintendo system. This would be very different from the long time of exclusivity that followed Final Fantasy VII Remake. That earlier delay strained people's patience and slowed progress across all platforms.

A smaller gap now would mean that the strategy needs to be changed based on what was learned.

From the point of view of the market, it's hard to argue with the reasoning. Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth is the second part of a series that Square Enix wants people to be able to play before the third part comes out.

For millions of players, the time it takes to catch up would be cut down by adding Xbox and future Nintendo gear. This method works well in today's publishing world, where ecosystem spread is more important than platform loyalty. Now, availability isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a growth engine.

Also, it's important to tell the difference between optimism and proven success. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade did come out on Xbox Series X and Series S in 2024, where it was met with a lot of enthusiasm and new attention.

But neither Remake nor Rebirth has come out for the latest Nintendo Switch hardware. Any rumors about chart success on a Switch 2 are just that—rumors—until the system is officially shown off and released.

When intention can change how something is seen, accuracy is important.

Nintendo fans have always been open to JRPGs, so Nintendo is a great place for Square Enix to grow. Deep story-driven experiences are always in demand, as shown by franchises like Xenoblade Chronicles and Fire Emblem.

It would not be an experiment to play a properly scaled version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Nintendo's next-generation hardware. Instead, it would be a planned addition. Portability and prestige are what make it appealing, and that combination always turns attention into sales.

As of right now, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is only going to be available on PlayStation 5.

Any plans for other platforms are just rumors. Still, the silence seems planned rather than rude. Square Enix has every reason to reach out to more people before finishing one of the best remakes in game history.

The mystery itself keeps the talk going until confirmation comes along. In this business, getting attention is often the first step toward something that will happen anyway.
