Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Patch 1.2 Adds More Game-Breaking Bugs

What was supposed to be a major improvement for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has turned into a nightmare for players.

Warhorse Studios released Patch 1.2 for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 on March 13, 2025. This update includes over 1,000 repairs and upgrades, including official Steam Workshop mod compatibility and a new barber shop feature. However, the update also introduced game-breaking bugs and significant performance issues, which drove the developers to create emergency repairs.

Players saw notable frame rate declines; some reported drops of 30–60 FPS in particular areas. Moreover, a major weakness in the main mission, "Into the Underworld", caused the significant NPC disappearance of Goatskin, therefore stopping advancement. Other negatives were trouble skinning animals, lighting issues in internal areas at night, and unavailability of rented beds.

Warhorse Studios responded with a patch meant to fix performance issues. Those who played the game since launch noticed decreased stuttering and frame rates reverting to former levels. The developers also informed that a fix would be forthcoming shortly and admitted the game-breaking flaw compromising the main objective.

Originally meant to enhance Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 gameplay, the massive Patch 1.2 has made the game more problematic than ever. Designed to enhance the experience by keeping updates on a separate branch from the original build, the upgrade took an incredible five months to create. But game-breaking problems affecting everything from main story development to save files and even horse speed cause the post-launch experience to feel more fractured than it did on launch day.

One of the major flaws brought in Patch 1.2 completely stops advancement in the main objective, particularly in the adventure "Into the Underworld." Set in the recently discovered city of Gutenberg, this task requires players to engage with a character named Goatskin.

But the alteration has caused him to be totally absent presently. Usually found by following another NPC called Udo, he is now imprisoned in situ and won't move or talk. Goatskin does not show; hence, even physically looking for him comes up empty.

This problem is particularly serious as it arises early in the game, suggesting that many players might have started the search before the update became available. For those who have not yet begun the search since Patch 1.2, there is a solution, but anyone who started it before the update is essentially shut out of advancing.

To compound the annoyance, another major issue influences the conclusion of the game. Usually, the game moves to an epilogue in which NPCs gather at Devil's Den and show a conclusion screen following the last chore. The most recent update has completely disrupted this sequence. The last message does not show up; several important NPCs are absent, and those that do show are inactive.

Some of the NPC are even trying to go back to sites from the last quest, including walking into places that ought to be inaccessible. Moreover, independent of past decisions, the game will now instantly delete Radzig's weapon from a player's inventory.

Now locked for a range of reasons, mattresses present a particularly disruptive new problem. While some beds—such as those bought from inns—have been tagged as "private areas," meaning that entering them results in NPC trespassing warnings, some beds are in rooms that have become permanently unavailable. Sleep is a crucial component in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, so this problem is especially alarming since it limits the player's capacity to restore stamina and save progress.

Even the beloved horse in the game, Pebbles, has suffered.   Patch 1.2 rebalanced Pebbles' stats, causing a significant speed loss. After cycling 35 kilometers, the "Good Old Pebbles" benefit now lowers stamina by 3 points and speed by 35%. Given the patch's other carrying capacity increases, the horse's carrying capacity rises by 25%, so this trade-off is not especially beneficial.   Moreover, the Head Start bonus—which used to give a notable initial boost while galloping—is less valuable now.

The apparent erasure of Save files may have been the most alarming problem for many players. But this is an unintentional result of a UI upgrade, not a flaw. Patch 1.2 added a "New Game" button to the pause menu exactly where the "Load Game" button was found.

Because of muscle memory, many players start a fresh game instead of loading their saves, therefore wiping off their past performance. Although the game does show multiple warning signals before making the choice, some players have clicked through them without understanding what they were doing.

For other users, the upgrade also resulted in extreme FPS declines; claims of frame rates falling by more than 20 FPS in some areas abound. Fortunately, Warhorse Studios fixed the problem with Patch 1.2.1, which was released the next day, therefore restoring performance to prior levels.

Acknowledging several of these problems, Warhorse Studios said an emergency remedy is en route. Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, Warhorse Studios' PR Manager, responded directly to concerns about the Goatskin bug, saying that it'll be fixed in the next patch.

He also mentioned the issue of locked beds, which has been noted as a top priority, suggesting that a fix is en route. Other problems, such as the broken endgame and Pebbles' speed nerf, have not been addressed explicitly and might require more time to resolve.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is presently frustrating. Patch 1.2 is meant to enhance the experience. However, Patch 1.2 has brought a lot of new problems. KCD2 players can only hope that some of these game-breaking bugs will be fixed shortly. Just in case, it might be advisable to stay from delving too far into the "Into the Underworld" quest until then.
