Scalpers have become increasingly more aggressive over the years. The PS5 and Xbox Series consoles have been prime targets for resellers but amiibos remain under constant watch from these people. With the recent Metroid Dread amiibo 2-pack going live at Best Buy and selling out within minutes.

Popular demand is 1 of the reasons for the amiibos selling out quickly but when going on eBay you can see that people are already selling the $29.99 amiibos for over 2x the price. The same thing has happened with many amiibos including the Zelda and Loftwing amiibo that unlocks fast travel within The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD.

It hasn't been confirmed what unlocks the amiibos will offer but the major issue is that retailers are refusing to do anything about it. They still make the sale regardless so it's likely they just don't care despite their PR announcements on Twitter. For now, expect more scalpers to place these items on sale for twice the price.

Metroid Dread launches on October 8th for Switch.

Update: (6/15/2021 6:43 PM EST)

Target has sold out and suffering from the same issues.
