Naughty Dog Working on Standalone Multiplayer Game According to Rumor

Naughty Dog is no stranger to multiplayer titles, with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves being considered the groundbreaking hit that showcased the studios' ability. While The Last of Us Part II did not include multiplayer a new rumor has surfaced that the company is working on a standalone release.

As reported in VGC:

“We’re seeking to bring the same level of ambition and quality of our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project. This is a rare opportunity to make an impact in your discipline and craft an experience that will be enjoyed and shared by millions of players around the world.”

Naughty Dog's multiplayer has been popular, with a thriving community still playing The Last of Us' multiplayer and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End maintaining a strong community. Sony has stated they're doubling down on exclusive IPs so this could be multiplayer for The Last of Us: Part II. My guess, players will take control of survivors from the Wolves and Seraphites fighting for control of Seattle prior to the core game similar to the Fireflies facing against Hunters in the original title.
