Publisher Krafton has announced that the lite version of PUBG will be shutting down at the end of April. Krafton cited the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic as the reason for shutting down the client. PUBG Lite is a free to play version of PUBG with reduced graphical intensity and scaled down features. It was mainly meant for lower end machines, typically found in regions like South East Asia, Eastern Europe, and South America. It became popular in game cafes and other stores with shared machines. The PUBG Lite player base is completely separate and cannot interact with those playing on the main game or mobile. For certain players in countries where PCs can be very expensive, migration to the full PUBG may be minimal.
Other versions of PUBG will not be affected by this. PUBG Mobile has a substantial player base on its own, bringing in nearly $7 million USD revenue most days. Krafton will still be in a good financial situation even after cutting so many players and regions loose.
