We could be getting a new God of War very soon!

With the PC release of God of War Ragnarok a little less than a month away, gamers who do not own a PlayStation 5 have been gearing up to finally try to experience the sequel to the 2018 reboot of such a classic franchise. It seems like the PC port isn’t the only thing we have to look forward to as signs point to Santa Monica working on another God of War title, and this is alongside the news we already have of Santa Monica working on a new IP. Yes, it seems like Santa Monica is working on two projects simultaneously.
The news comes from a job listing once again. Santa Monica is looking to hire a Senior Hero Combat Designer with a preference for candidates experienced in third-person melee action RPGs. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the modern God of War. Could we be getting a new protagonist? While we know Cory Barlog is working on Santa Monica’s new IP, this new recruitment effort also hints toward a sequel.
The studio also favors those familiar with the combat systems in God of War and God of War Ragnarok. Interestingly, the job postings for the new IP have different requirements, further solidifying that this is specifically for the God of War series.
It makes sense that Santa Monica is now working on two new games simultaneously. Sony has already promised to release big titles in the near future, and this may be the result. Our speculations will be confirmed, as we might get announcements for these projects in Sony’s upcoming September games showcase.
We’ve got a lot of excellent indie titles recently, like Phantom Spark and some impressive AA titles like Nobody Wants to Die, but I’ve been craving a AAA release for some time now. It is no surprise that August has been a bit of a drought for big studios since September when the big releases start to roll around. It is nice to finally have things to look forward to. With Santa Monica behind these projects, we're bound to get some heavy hitters soon.
