There Will Be A Live-Action My Hero Academia Movie On Netflix

Netflix has added yet another anime adjacent title to its ever-expanding list of Japanese media with a live-action My Hero Academia adaptation directed by Shinsuke Sato and written by Joby Harold. This will be the first live-action adaptation of My Hero Academia, but it certainly isn’t the first live-action adaptation that Netflix has been involved with, such as its adaptation of Death Note as a far more Americanized title.

 

This adaptation was announced by The Hollywood Reporter, and it does have some chance of succeeding considering the two creatives who have been attached to it thus far. Shinsuke Sato has adapted several anime to the silver screen, such as Gantz, Death Note: Light Up the New World, and Bleach. Whereas Joby Harold has credits such as the Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi and Netflix’s Army of the Dead.

Japanese adaptations of anime are sometimes better than American ones, such as the Dragon Ball Evolution movie that is, obviously, beloved by absolutely everyone and has never been criticized by anyone ever. And Shinksuke Sato is a Japanese filmmaker who has adapted those previously mentioned anime into live-action Japanese films. So, we can only hope that he is able to wrangle this into something good, but, at the same time, this will be an English and not a Japanese adaptation. It will also be Shinsuke Sato’s English directorial debut.

Hopefully this doesn’t affect the quality of this adaptation of My Hero Academia which, for those unaware, is about a world filled with people who have various types of superpowers. These superpowers, called quirks, can be used to become a superhero, and the main character, Deku, just happens to be born without one. He is later given one by the greatest superhero in the world, All Might, and Deku must learn to use this new power so that he can fulfil his dreams of being a hero.

There’s a lot of story already written seeing as the manga has been in production since 2014 and the anime has been around since 2016. So, there should be more than enough of the story to adapt for this live-action version.
